Smart watches
Ok let's talk a bit about smart watches. In my opinion smart watches are a big meh to me. Smart watches are expensive and really visually ugly. But the biggest turn off to me is the battery life. I'm aware smart watches have several apps and functions that drain the battery life. But to charge the watch everyday is the biggest turn off for me. In the future manufacturers will improve the battery life but right now as it is sucks.

RE: Smart watches
Battery life doesn't really bother me. I already have to put the phone and the tablet on the charger every evening when I go to bed. One more thing isn't going to hurt. Not that longer battery life wouldn't help the argument for them, but I don't see it as a deal-breaker.

The thing holding me back is the marginal value they will add to my life for the cost. They are very expensive and turn yet another product that was once only replaced every 10 years (or kept indefinitely in the case of a really nice mechanical time piece) into disposable technology.

Cell phones were an added cost, but the value they brought for that cost has been incredible. I just do not see smartwatches the same way... yet. In the world of technology, most have learned never to say "never". However, I definitely say "not right now".

Smart watches
They feel like I'm trying to be Flava Flav. I don't like a watch the size of a toddler's face.

Smart watches could be built so as to generate power from motion or solar power (e.g. Citizen's EcoDrive) thus extending battery life.

The draw to me would be for having (some of) the functions of a smart phone when carrying a smart phone is inconvenient.

However, Luddite that I am, I wear mechanical watches and use fountain pens, so there's that. Consider

RE: Smart watches
There's only one function that smart watches have that make me want one. They are supposed to be able to vibrate instead of ring to notify you that you have messages and stuff. Maybe I could use it as an alarm clock? I hate waking up the whole house with my alarm (I connect external speakers to my phone before sleeping, otherwise I don't wake up)

I don't really like going outside.
It's too damn "peopley" out there....

RE: Smart watches
I always used to upgrade my phones until a few years ago when I realised that all I really need it to do was receive and make calls, text messages and to connect to the internet.

So I haven't upgraded my phone for a while now, I don't need the apps and I don't think smart watches are worth the money.

This may come as a shock to some people but.... GaspGaspGasp

Watches are much too small to watch porn on, especially with the screen moving back and forth.

My (outdated) iPhone 4S is nothing more than a glorified podcast machine.

Have you ever looked at the available vibrating alarm products? For example, the SmartShaker.
