So I have to go to church after all....
For an assignment in my graduate school studies, I have to go to a church service of something totally unfamiliar with me. Since I am atheist, but raised Catholic and have experience with protestant churches, I have to attend a non christian church.. Should be interesting.

For this assignment, I would like you to attend a service of another religion. If you are Christian (Protestant or Catholic), I would like you to attend a non-Christian (i.e. Jewish, Hindu, Buddhist, Muslim or other non-Christian based) service, not just a different Christian denomination. Consider the idea that most Americans see this as a “Christian” nation and our language, laws, customs, and cultures are often default to a Christian way of seeing the world. When you attend another service, think about the people around you and how that must make them feel. If you are a non-Christian, think in the reverse. If you are atheist or agnostic, attend a service that is alien to your life experience (i.e. if you’ve been to a Protestant or Catholic service, choose a different one). The goal here is to attend a service as “different” from your prior experiences as possible.

Write a 6-8 page response to this experience in light of the discussions and readings we are covering. You will also be sharing your experience with the class. Make sure you first briefly discuss YOUR religious background as you compare it to a very different experience. What did you learn?

Why are you still reading this line when it is obviously my signature line?

Are you paying money for this class?
I mean real cash?

I'd suggest a VooDoo ceremony.

What exactly is it that you're studying? Consider

Go Baha'i, they just sit there and chant or meditate or something. You'll be bored shitless but think of the hipster bragging rights!

I went to this little Baha'i temple, nevermind you've probably never heard of them.

It's an elective in my Training and Development masters degree. This class is Adult Ed 510: Social and Historical Issues in Adult Eduication.

The class is about cultural barriers to adult learning, etc.

Right now I'm reading about how great socialism is... Sheesh, going to be a long semester...

Shoot for extra credit!
Shuffle over to Afghanistan, attend a mosque, stand and declare yourself to be an American atheist assigned to empathize with a religion you do not believe in.

Upon your return, your head can be set on the professors podium, where you will regale the class with your enthralling experience!
You can relate how the oily, mechanical sound of AK-47's being charged offset rather nicely, the more natural tones of stone on steel. But more excitedly you can tell everyone that they really do wear ski masks year round!
You can close by thanking the assigner for the opportunity to walk in anothers shoes.
Unfortunately, since the rest of your body was last seen popping and crackling in a greasy mess of tires, George Bush portraits, bikinis and 6 year old copies of Sports Illustrated, there will be no more walking anywhere for you.
