So am I the only person who prefers cartoons over anime?
I mean anime is cool(sometimes), but I seem to be the only person who thinks that cartoons are better than anime.

Depends on the cartoon and the anime. I don't think either style is intrinsically better than the other. As long as we are not including Hayao Miyazaki's work in either category that is.

I think Hayao Miyazaki is my favorite anime writer by far.

I think Hayao Miyazaki is my favorite anime writer by far.

He transcends his genre. Spirited Away is one of the best Movies (not just animated but all categories) ever made. His work is also much closer to the old Disney style inked cells than it is to typical anime.

Perhaps I lack the biologist's understanding of the subject and am making a categorical error but isn't anime considered to be cartoons?

Genus = Cartoon
Species = Anime

Consider

Under this discussion it would be more like

Genus: Animated movies/tv shows
Species= Japanese Anime or Species= Western Cartoons

Ah, I see.

So you saying that Japanese Anime and Western Cartoons can't interbreed.

I get it now. Thanks.

They can but their offspring is infertile.

Dammit I was gonna make that joke....

Honestly a lot stems from different programming agendas. Western cartoons are primarily humor focused. There's more variety and range of covered topic in anime and that's what I enjoy of it. I'm not even into heavy action anime, but some serious ones I think outmatch most cartoons.
