So in my classes
On an exam Monday there was an essay question asking about a few amendments. For the first amendment to the U.S. constitution I wrote down that it protects us from religion, and didn't write down the part that grants us the right to choose a religion as well since it basically says that we have the right to choose a religion or have no religion. Since the real protection is in that we are protected from bullshit haha, not that we can have a choice of which ignorance to follow.

Also the creation musuem came up in another class, and I spoke out on why it shouldn't even exist. Who says college classes can't be fun?

RE: So in my classes
I hope my husband shows up in this thread to tell you about the fun he has in his college classes. Wink

And you're absolutely right about the First Amendment.

My reason for being is to serve as a cat cushion. That is good enough for me. Wink

RE: So in my classes
And preaching was all that was going on, in that class in particular. I never heard such nonsense in my life.

"The Founding Fathers never wanted socialism!" Well, disregarding that you have no idea what socialism is in first place, I assume you are talking about welfare and don't like that idea? "Yes, socialism!" Alright, well, if sponsoring poor people with many kids irks you so much, how about teaching them what /causes/ kids, and help them prevent it? You know, hand out freaking condoms and have sex ed in school? *fucking crickets* WHAT? What did I say?

"Here in the South, people are generally conservative white christians, whereas up North, they are often German or Irish, or Catholic."

"Here in the South, people are conservative and adhere to old timey family values and such.
*googles* is that why Texas has the highest rate of single teenage mothers in the entire Union?

"Christian values are very prevalent here, and church has a big influence in politics."

Uh huh, disregarding this whole separation of church and state thing for the moment, is that why churches are taking money to campaign for keeping counties 'dry'? Money that comes from liquor stores in the *neighboring* county?

All that hate's gonna burn you up, kid.

Yikes Kar. Sounds like you were trying to open the eyes of the blind. I've found that it has become completely impossible to discuss socialism with people who lean that heavily into the conservative spectrum. They know what they've been told, and they're sticking to it.

Wow.. I guess I don't see that much stupidity being a Science student. Every single class I've taken this year, started off by introducing the basic concepts of Evolution, and I'm sure most of my professors are atheists.

That has been a nice perk in philosophy as well. Intro prof was openly atheist and former faculty adviser to an atheist club. Another prof reaffirms science's validity over religion daily. Its just the history class with the noisy baptist that gets off topic that annoys me. Last class he couldn't remember half the names of the roman emperors he was supposed to be teaching us about but he went off for 30 minutes talking about christianity'simportance, the old testament and religious persecution

I didn't even try to discuss "socialism", per se, but for teabaggers EVERYTHING is socialism. There shouldn't be ANY environmental regulations, at all, we should be allowed to shit all over the place, treat people like slaves and animals like things, but the government should be shoving probes up your raped daughter's vag before she can have an abortion, because otherwise "socialism".

I grew UP in a socialist country, East Germany, and I helped making an end of it, and those people have no fucking idea what they are babbling about when they are whining about waaaaaah soooooshalism!

Incidentally, I'm working towards an AAS in computer science, and the topic of religion or politics shouldn't even come up at all, yet they blatantly weave it into everything. And unlike actual "socialism", to wit "marxist leninist materialism" classes that were mandatory for students when and where I grew up, you are fucking SHOT DOWN instead of being encouraged to discuss if you as much as wonder out loud WTF they are babbling about.

Anyway, so this semester I'm taking 18 credit hours just to be able to GTFO here ASAP because this place is killing both of us. Fucking thumpers.

All that hate's gonna burn you up, kid.
