So the human authors of the bible hate knowledge...
The bible clearly does not want us to attain further knowledge... How ridiculous! Maybe because they are afraid of having their eyes opened - oh wait, that is exactly why because they don't want us to disregard the authors theocratic system!

Genesis "2:17 But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die."

Ecclesiastes 1:18 For in much wisdom is much grief: and he that increaseth knowledge increaseth sorrow.

He that would make his own liberty secure, must guard even his enemy from oppression.

The Bible is a hodgepodge, though. I'd be willing to bet that with a little digging, I could produce quotations that would say the exact opposite of your two. That's one of the many problems with the Bible -- it's not consistent. You can use it to support just about any position by selective quotation.

We need to fire up "The Bible Game".

It works like this: Make ANY assertion about ANYTHING. The more outlandish the better. Self-contradictory assertions add further zest.

Then append bible verse(s) that plausibly support the assertion.

Extra points for deriving unamibiguous support from selected scripture.

Diamond/Platinum game mastery awarded when support for the assertion is plausibly argued from a RANDOMLY selected bible verse.

Ready? GO!
