So honestly I'm clueless about most of the theories that are out there.

It appears to me that, as an agnostic, you may be clinging to the idea that god is real. So you are hoping to solve the riddles of life, before giving up belief in god.

But step one is not solving the riddles of life. Those will not be solved in any of our lifetimes. But progress is made everyday.

Step one is simple questions: "Do I really believe that someone built an ark and put two of each animal on it. Fed them, kept them from killing themselves, scooped that much shit for 40 days and 40 nights?" And, by the way: How big is a "cubit" and how many would you need to house all of these animals? Some of which may or may not have been dinosaurs?

I suggest that you start with the biblical questions, before you move on.

I believe the universe exist.

I believe I exist.

I believe that you can gain knowledge from the universe.

But more importantly:

I believe in the human experience.

"Well, I believe in the soul... the cock...the pussy... the small of a woman's back... the hangin' curveball... high fiber... good scotch... that the novels of Susan Sontag are self-indulgent overrated crap... I believe Lee Harvey Oswald acted alone. I believe there ought to be a Constitutional amendment outlawing Astroturf and the designated hitter. I believe in the sweet spot, soft core pornography, opening your presents Christmas morning rather than Christmas Eve, and I believe in long, slow, deep, soft, wet kisses that last three days."

There is no "I" in "team" but there is a broken and mixed up "me."

Agnosticism is the position that the existence of a god is unknown and/or unknowable. Agnosticism is NOT some sort of 'fence sitting' position,

Your agnosticism tells us what your claim is concerning knowledge, it does not tell us what you believe.

The vast majority of atheists are also agnostic.

Quote:And being an agnostic is extremely stressful and brain puzzling constantly wondering is this true, is that true. Never knowing what to believe.

Why be stressed?

Try this out for a while. Base your beliefs on demonstrable evidence, reasoned argument, and valid logic. If a claim does not live up to that criteria, withhold belief until such a time that the claim does, and not a minute before.

And for those big questions that humanity does not currently have answers for, the best answer is, "we don't know, YET". Learn to get comfortable with that answer if you care about intellectual honesty.

Quote:Anyways, I'm just curious what you all believe. Whether it's Evolution, Big Bang, whatever.

Those are supported by demonstrable evidence. They are the best answers that we currently have that fit the evidence.

Quote:I'm just curious what an atheist thinks about where we came from or how the Universe came to be. Being brought up in an extremely religious home all I was taught was God, and God only. So honestly I'm clueless about most of the theories that are out there.

Most atheists accept the scientific explanations for the existence of the universe and life, not based on our atheism, but based on the evidence.

You have to ask yourself, if you care whether your beliefs are true, or at least likely to be true. The single best path to understanding reality that humanity has ever found that is consistent and reliable is the scientific method.

I believe in:

- reality
- freedom
- myself

I believe I saw some red apples in the far tree. Way early for that. So I believe I will grab the dogs and head on out there to investigate.

RE: So what do you believe?
I believe that there are no gods or goddesses and they have been made up to explain phenomenon human beings don't understand and to give an explanation when one is not already given scientifically.

I believe that we evolved from a common ancestor that we shared with the chimp, orangutan, and gorilla. All animals evolved.

I believe that the big bang theory is correct with the evidence we have.

I believe that religion is outdated and the way people indoctrinate their kids with the nonsense should be stopped.

I believe that without religion the human race would be better off.

You're almost there.
We have shared ancestors with apes, anteaters, artichokes, and amoeba; baboons, barracuda, broccoli, and bacteria; ... zebras, zonures, zucchini, and zooplankton.

Evolution for the win. Thumbsup

Skepticism is not a position; it is an approach to claims.
Science is not a subject, but a method.
