RE: So, whose forum is this, anyway?
When I was a young man I was a Christian. It took me awhile to deconvert, but I managed. It was painful, but I persevered. That was 30 years ago.

If the internet had been available 30 years ago, I would have most likely used it as a source of reference during my deconversion process. And…had I seen a thread like the Pedophilia Thread on an Atheist Website, then I am certain my deconversion would have been much more difficult that it was.

Deconversion was difficult enough for me (and I figure I had a relatively easy time of it compared to many), and I would certainly not wish the deconversion process to be more difficult for anyone than it has to be.

RE: So, whose forum is this, anyway?
Had to go check out the pedophelia thread just because you all keep talking about it. Pretty disturbing, I skimmed a few pages then had to quit. But whatever, life is full of shit that I don't want to see, so I'm not gonna look.

I like this forum just the way it is, my mangina has no sand. I do what I wanna do, see what I wanna see. If I wanted to have the perfect forum and have all access to banishment and punishment, I'd start my own fucking forum.

I realize that this place is special to a lot of members. Hell, it's special to me. It's the only forum I've ever participated in. But my life is more than this forum.

I&I is a douchehammer, his incessant posting about stupid shit is stupid.
I don't care, I rarely ever read his posts. Sometimes I'm just in the mood to read some general fucktardary for a giggle and I know that his threads are always nearby. It's almost comforting.

I dunno what else to say, gonna take the boy to the pool here in a minute and not think about any of this shit until I get back later and log on and get reminded that even people dedicated to reason can be irrational. I get tired of everybody needing their hand held all the time.

Jesus fucking christ.

But now I have come to believe that the whole world is an enigma, a harmless enigma that is made terrible by our own mad attempt to interpret it as though it had an underlying truth.

It's funny in the same section (im pretty sure but i might be wrong) there's a post about ray comfort saying rape is fun and it's things like that the general idea that anything goes in the 'atheist world' that's bothersome. Because we know it's not true.

I've asked several times but no-one has yet told me what the guy has done wrong. If anyone wants to tell me here I'd be grateful.

Likewise, I've asked you what allowing porn does to this forum. The weeding out minors explanation doesn't work. I just brought this up in that controversial thread: no Internet surfing minor I know actually tells the truth about their age when it comes to these silly age verifications. And actually, I can comfortably predict that more adults will be upset over porn being allowed here than the minors.

I keep going back to this porn thing because:

1) I like porn
2) You guys are being inconsistent if you don't allow porn, but allow self-proclaimed pedophiles... why? Because you said yourself, you don't want to alienate the minors. Hmm... I wonder what is more likely to drive minors away... a forum with confessed pedophiles or a forum with some good ol fashioned T&A?

They don't have to commit a crime just like porn doesn't commit a crime (if you add a very simple feature of age verification). They are offensive to people just like porn is offensive to people. Be consistent with your rules guys. That's all I ask.

A compromise was brought up and it's a very good idea. Make a "view at your own risk" section. Put an age verification on there to avoid the legal issues. Make a rule that if content from that section spills outside of the section, it will be a bannable offense.

But then, you have to figure out what to do with the current people in question. Damage is done. People know them. Even if they post outside of this section, people will recognize them. Not sure how you're going to handle that one.

I will say this: I'm sure glad that I'm not an admin. God speed.

As was explained to you in that thread it is about the fact that if we had porn we would have to remove all of the people here who are under 18 due to liability. It has nothing to due with porn being offensive to some people it is against the law to provide that content to minors it is however not against the law to discuss anything shy of actual threats (ie: I'm going to kill/assault Person/Political Office Holder X)

I actually got a death threat online once. A pretty serious one. (catholic didnt like what I said I guess.) Anyway, spoke to a cop. Was told they couldn't do anything about it until the person actually did something. So threats really don't matter either.

I just explained the work-around. Add the age verification. Problem solved. Now the minors can come back and lie about their age. That is not a valid argument.

At the beginning a decision was made that the forum would not have an age exclusion and would therefore not allow porn. Why is this hard to understand?

Weird, there is a kid in texas in jail because of something he posted to facebook. Also I know it is illegal to make threats against the President. Not sure what the exact rules are but since I'm not a psychopath (much Evil_monster ) I'm not really worried about it.
