I think he means add and age requirement to that particular section.

It's unsettling a bit isn't it? But yea.

It has nothing to due with porn being offensive to some people it is against the law to provide that content to minors it is however not against the law to discuss anything shy of actual threats (ie: I'm going to kill/assault Person/Political Office Holder X)

I just explained the work-around. Add the age verification. Problem solved. Now the minors can come back and lie about their age. That is not a valid argument.

Minors do NOT want to come and lie about their age, because more often than not they come here because of issues with their parents because they have come out as atheists. They don't tend to show up just to be a part of the community, but to get support regarding their situation, and they can't get that properly if they lie about their age.

Lying about their age defeats their purpose here, and they don't do it either.

Why would we want to force them to lie and then deprive them of useful input? We can't give useful input if we don't know how much more time they will be spending at home etc.

Because then all those people would have to lie about who they are and pretend not to know anyone. That's hardly fair on them. I work in a school, I am not gonna try and exploit that law, I would enforce it diligently.

Besides, who gives a shit about porn?

At the beginning a decision was made that the forum would not have an age exclusion and would therefore not allow porn. Why is this hard to understand?

So what was done in the beginning is an absolute?

And yes, someone just said it above. I am talking about the section for these types of threads to go in.

If the kids want to go in there, they can lie about their age. Otherwise, they stay out of that particular section and participate normally.

Add to that it's a work around of questionable legality to a problem we don't have. Want to go look at porn the entire rest of the internet has all teh pornz why would we need to have it here as well?

Want to go talk about being a pedophile the entire rest of the internet has all teh pedophile sites why would we need to have it here as well?

I am talking about the porn thing because someone presented a valid argument for removing confessed pedophiles. The porn thing, at least on the surface, is supposed to be about protecting minors from viewing such sin. That same protection should be extended to them regarding pedophiles.

But you guys countered with the legality aspect of it. And now I'm trying to give you a work-around to that. Just make the effing section! It's a good compromise. What's the big deal here?

Edit: BTW, you're right. No one gives a shit about porn. But obviously people do give a shit about pedophiles.

I think what farce is suggesting is an over 18 section. For things such as our pedo comfort thread. Honestly I wouldnt bother. In a perfect world maybe. I don't think it will make any difference here.

RE: So, whose forum is this, anyway?
Here's some speculation.

I used to be an Administrator of an Internet Forum whose primary focus was related to Fishing. This forum had a well-defined mission statement that was visibly posted on the forum main page which stated that our primary purpose was to serve the Fishing Community, and that any posts that might interfere with that statement only existed at the discretion of the Admins and Mods.

Thus, even though we had forums for “Off-color Jokes” and “Politics” and such, we would put a stop to any thread that we figured distracted the forum members who were primarily just interested in Fishing-related topics. Our Forum members appreciated this policy, and this policy allowed us to remove without protest a lot of topics that were borderline racist, sexist, sexual, homophobic, overtly religious, hateful and just plain distracting. In short, we pretty much kept the forum topics revolving about the Mission Statement.

I looked on this forum for a Mission Statement, but didn’t find one. So…Maybe this forum could use a concise and well-defined Mission Statement that is very-visibly posted?

I don’t know. I'm just speculating. I could be wrong.

With the current situation? Nope. Damage is way past done. We're all dying of radiation.

This is more for looking towards the future. Those two admitted to finding this place via Google. Leave things the way they are now and you're only inviting more. Now, that's not necessarily a bad thing as long as they can keep civil discourse going. It might be bad if this civil discourse is made to be public the way it is now. Two of them caused this much controversy. What's going to happen with more? Alarmist scenario maybe, but not entirely ludicrous.

Also, you can keep sections of websites hidden from Google. So if you have that restricted section, it can be set to be hidden from Google search.

Or yea... let's just leave things the way they are and see what happens. I'm rather enjoying my discussion in that thread.
