Some astonishing ignorance at display
As some of you know form my avatar, i am the owner of a Citroen DS. Something that is quite essential to this little story. Citroen being the brand and DS being the model. Like Ford Mustang, with Ford being the brand and Mustang being the model.

Today i woke up my preciouss from its hibernation and drove directly to the gas station to check tire air pressure. So while doing my thing an elderly man approaches me and asks me if the brand DS is still in existence. I told him in a matter-of-fact-tone that its a Citroen DS, and yes, the brand still exists but the model doesnt (well, there is a "new" DS out since a few years, but it has nothing to do with my model, they just wanted ot cash in on this name of their most famous model). But, to my surprise, he answered in a matter-of-fact-tone as well, that no, DS was a brand.

At this second it dawned to me that we are standing there, two men, one with a car he owns for 30 years and obviously has enough know how (and $ Blush ) to keep it in shape. And then, we have this other, random guy, who doesnt own a car like this (and probably never did), who wants to tell the owner of this car (me), that he must be wrong about this most fundamental property of his car, namely what brand it is.

At this point i was finished with checking tire pressure and decided to wish him a good day and that he may want to google "Citroen" and "DS".

Yes, you were correct.

But ownership of a thing doesn't bestow magical insight either. You weren't right just becuase you owned it. Tongue

This Goddess sold recently in Melbourne for AU$24,000...

My uncle was a Citroën fan for his entire lifetime. I lost track of the number he'd owned. One of his first was similar to this beauty...

Facepalm

Just last night, my wife and I watched the extras of David Attenborough's First Life DVD. In it he told the story of a boy who approached him to ask how long Komodo dragons were. Attenborough explained that he had seen Komodo dragons in person in Indonesia, and had measured one that was 12 feet long. The boy said, "Wrong!"

My dads cousin, who happens to be my godfather, has such a Traction Avant. Think he was the one who sold my dad to these cars. At that time dad was driving a 180D Daimler with 45HP which topped out at ca. 120km/h....downhill. Imagine your cousin then showing you (early 70s) this spaceship with 120HP, fuel injection, topping out at 190km/h. Gasp
Then, i got indoc.. raised with these cars. Considering the nickname "deesse" (godess) for this vehicle, i probably am even religious. Blush Blush

Talking about the 180D. When i went through the house i got after my mom died, i found the radio (dad hinted me that the radio should be around somewhere still). It has only minor damage and i am trying to repair it. No transistors, it has effing tubes still! Is is worth 1k€ according to ebay. Wink

The DS, well...24AUS$ is 16k€, and that would be prety much a bargain judging by how that car looks. But something doenst fit. The hubcaps are wrong, but you only can know this being a "specialist". Also the drivers rear mirror Laugh out load Its the correct mirror, but its supposed to be placed horizontally, not vertically. Facepalm Big Grin
The blinker is wrong too. It usually has a (fake) chrome frame. Possibly its worn out and was painted with body colour.
It is however (as the pic name suggests) a pre 1972 model, as can seen by the door handles (sunken handles were used after 1972). Thumbsup
21 had the best engine, so there is that. Thumbsup
So i think its worth rather......20k?

Just sayin´ Blush

I bought a 95 Triumph Thunderbird in 1995, and it was one of the first 50 in the USA. I rode it home, and the first place I took it was an antique car get-together they used to have at a local drive in restaurant. (1950s vintage place).

I actually had two guys tell me they'd known someone who' d had the exact same model, years ago.

I really messed with them when I told them it was not a restoration, but all original, including the mileage...

They believed it.

Dumbasses.
