But this was close to thirty minutes of just percussion pieces. Not pieces with other instruments and percussion. Interesting to listen to for five minutes, not so interesting for the next 25.

The problem could be that there just aren't a lot of good composers writing for percussion ensemble, or that the conductor wasn't sure about what pieces to choose, since this was the first time this festival has ever had a percussion ensemble. What, in your opinion, are some really interesting percussion ensemble pieces?

You heard the wrong band. 30 minuets of Zakir Hussain is heaven. The same with Giovanni Hidalgo and Changuito. You are attacking a form with roots dating back thousands of years. How old is your instrument? How many gigs exist for that one? I don't see many advertised.

I understand highly syncopated rhythms can be difficult for those raised in 4/4 CAN BE DIFFICULT.Perhaps read Portraits in rhythm b Anthony Cirone to get a better ide. And that concerns orchestral snare drum only.. However some of those other time signatures can be astounding. Imagine a rhythm with one bar of 102/8 next to another 33/16. Welcome to Indian rhythms.

Anomalistic or animalistic? Consider

One time when I was on a flight, I flipped off a kid behind me because they wouldn't shut up (this wasn't recent). Not my finest moment.
