Sprinkle magic water to end the dehumanization of women?
Seriously I wish I was making this up.

This showed up on my facebook wall earlier today from a hardcore Catholic friend.

Who do these guys seriously think they are helping with this stuff. There are plenty of events, marches and charity's out there making a REAL difference towards eliminating sexual abuse of people.

Sometimes you just find nut jobs like this and have to wonder how deep some people go down the rabbit hole with indoctrinating their kids into this nonsense.

They are the sort of chaps who have their own hard drives full of porn, feel guilty about it, so annoy the public to lessen their personal guilt

I notice in both the comments on this story the writers say these guys are "stupidly handsome" as if their physical appearance makes their position on this issue even more relevant. I guess if they were fat and ugly their opinions would not count as much? Considering what they are protesting, that's just a bit ironic...is this maybe a ploy by these guys to get laid by gullible women?

As a feminist I have... mixed feelings on the pornography industry. What these boys are doing is rather stupid, and a little bit judgmental.

I believe that some aspects of the porn industry should change (with federal regulation on STD tests as opposed to industry wide regulation), and perhaps a little less womanizing and a little more woman empowerment porn (which is available as a niche market).

Other then that the porn industry seems harmless to me, sex is just a part of life, and pornography has been around for quite some time (in fact, the bible has quite a bit wild pornography in it as well, it's just been sanitized from it's translated and updated copies).

Either way, those boys are being very judgmental, and a smidge creepy.

I agree that this should be more of a woman driven industry just as prostitution should. Women are the focus of most sex industries so they should not be adhering to strict rules brought by men who don't expose themselves in such ways. A woman's body has always been a powerful part of her strengths and it is a slight affront to our dignity to suggest men should be in control of how it is utilized.

At least they aren't blocking the door for people wanting to go in. If it lasts long enough I'm sure the shop will call the cops. I would think Canada has anti-loitering laws. Too bad they don't realize why the people inside the shop think it's a big joke.

I'm not a non believer, I believe in the possibility of anything. I just don't let the actuality of something be determined by a 3rd party.

You know what... I bet a lot of people actually think it's a joke or a publicity stunt. If I saw people praying outside of the porn shop, I would think it's probably a joke or prank, especially if they insisted on dousing me with holy water or something.

What a waste of time.

Funny how when asked: "Why do you believe it's necessary to make a public protest, however peaceful, against porn shops?" if you read his answer and just replace porn shops with religion it's kind of funny.

SF: I think it’s necessary to make a public protest because RELIGION seems to be one of those things that the majority of the public seems to accept as normal and healthy. It has seeped into relationships and is commonplace among groups of young people. I think if we are to expose RELIGION for what it is – destructive, demoralizing, and intrinsically evil – we have to make a public showing of our disapproval and be ready to explain why it is wrong.

What is it that Christians hate about porn?

I can understand that 2000 years ago they were against promiscuous sex as there wasn't much in the way of contraception and no sort of welfare to help provide for kids, also there was the problem of STDs. But now we have contraception to prevent pregnancy and STDs most of the time and the state will help provide for single parents so whats the big problem? In a way I think the viable ideas behind these rules 2000 years ago have led to them being self defeating nowadays.

In England, schools began offering vaccines against cervical cancer as part of a Government scheme and several Catholic schools refused to provide the vaccine as they felt it encouraged promiscuous sex, meaning that many have missed out. This is self defeating as part of the idea against promiscuous sex was the health concerns and now the church has refused an opportunity to prevent a particular health concern in case it causes more sex. It's like they are trapped in a ridiculous circle;
Promiscuous sex spreads STDs
Promiscuous sex therefore is bad
We have a way to prevent STDs
Preventing STDs will make more people have promiscuous sex
Preventing STDs is bad
(And repeat!)

I mean what sort of retard would even think of using STDs as a means of trying to prevent sex?

(Rant over, feel much better, sorry for going a little off topic Smile)

Back to the point, does anybody know what reason Christians give for being against porn (other than 'its bad')?

Worst

Hughsie; I presume Christians are against porn because it depicts and encourages extra-marital sex, and specifically sex that is not intended to procreate. Both are supposedly sins, because after creating the universe in all it's unimaginable size and complexity the most important thing for God to concern Himself with is the specifics of our sex lives.

Ever heard of Mormon porn?
