Bug Spy-commercial
Hey,
A small problem.
I clicked the banner at the login screen to see what the commercial was about.
It took me to this website :
http://www.freethoughtfilmfest.org/index...ING-THERE-

Before that however , Mozilla showed the line : "reading history and bookmarks".
There are some websites that read a user's history/bookmarks to create an advertisement profile and better pitch products to the user.

Here is a vid on this issue:

Please don't tell me the TTA website scooped down to the level of those websites and allows commercials from websites that scan a user's history SadSadSad

I didn't even notice there being commercials

Oh there we go now I see it. Thanks for making their existence prominent =p

I'm not a non believer, I believe in the possibility of anything. I just don't let the actuality of something be determined by a 3rd party.

RE: Spy-commercial
That sucks. Any way to block them from getting your history and bookmarks?

Correct me when I'm wrong.

RE: Spy-commercial
You can use ad-block if you're on chrome or firefox, they're extensions you can easily install.

Also, I highly doubt the site managers chose that specific ad to be run, knowing how it functions and such. They just allowed the ad to run without knowing. So it's less that they've stooped to any kind of level and more that they just didn't research every advertisement that is run on the forum, which is very understandable.

Hey gang.

Looking into it as we speak. Things are really hectic for Seth right now, but I'm sure we'll get some resolution shortly.

Thanks for bringing this to our attention Gag!

James.

RE: Spy-commercial
Hey , thanks for caring Stark.
I honestly doubt intentional malice on the part of the owners of the site.
I was more or less cynical/sarcastic.

Thanks for taking the time to look into it.

RE: Spy-commercial
Hmm , I think the fault may be on my browser's part.
Whenever I click a banner , before it loads the URL the bar is left blank in Mozilla.
When that happens it offers the option : "Search history and bookmarks (?)" - I swear they should have added that question mark.
I'll have to do a bit of research myself - this may be just a false alarm.
This is my version :
Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 6.1; en-US; rv:1.9.2.15) Gecko/20110303 Firefox/3.6.15

And if this is a free-forum, then it is normal for banners and commercials to be there. And everything else. You can't be picky with free things...

This was never about the existence of a commercial
It was whether the commercial links to a potentially dangerous site for forum users.
