Is anyone else doing the standing desk thing?

RE: Standing Desks
After having to deal with a pilonidal cyst two times in a row, I seriously need to reduce the amount of sitting that I do each day. I don't really want to spend less time at my PC, so it seems like a standing desk is the perfect solution to my problems. Laugh out load

RE: Standing Desks
I'm quite liking this one so far. I chose this particular model because it can be easily adjusted to various heights, including sitting height. I have only been using it at home so far and only for a few days but it has been letting me switch between standing and seated postures when I feel like it rather than being confined to a single position. Height changes are facilitated by a spring system.

No, because I'm not a full blown retarded fuckwit of epic proportions.
Nice beard though.

That seems like it would just be tiring. Standing around all day.

Ahh to be young again and to be able to sit for 12 hours. I can't do it anymore. I have to switch out of the seated position from time to time, and kneeling isn't a much better option. That and sitting for long periods literally shaves years off your life expectancy[1]. I'm still deciding whether to take this one in to work with me on my return or whether to buy another one for use there.

Sitting for long stretches kills my back, I like that it's adjustable. I can see these becoming very popular.

RE: Standing Desks
I thought you were talking about one of these desks that has a treadmill.

How do people type on a keyboard when their walking? I'm not that talented.

I sit on my couch with my laptop but I get up a lot because I just can't sit still for very long, it drives me crazy to sit all the time.

Actually I sit on my couch with my cat on my lap and my laptop on a pillow next to me at a uncomfortable angle.

Damn cat. I wish I didn't love her so much. Grrrrrr.

Yup! About half the time. I go back and forth between sitting and standing.

No typing in the can though, there's enough crap in my posts already.

My next goal is to free myself from the keyboard using voice recog. Kinda a tricky business though.

husband would love that, I can see the kids leaning on it and flipping everything over. Ohmy

many, many years ago I worked in a call center in a room full of cubbies. We had the desks raised to standing position and switched out our chairs for ones that were more bar stool height. Made it easier to go from sit/stand. It was at the beginning of the whole office ergonomics boom.
