RE: Stars!
It used to be...

Star Trek: for its sci-fi
Star Wars: for the production value

The last Star Trek movie was fantastic though.

Star Gate is... nice to think about... I guess.

RE: Stars!
I started with an occasional TNG ep when I was a kid.
Then I saw 2/3 Star Wars movies in theatres iwith the re-release of '97. I was 11 and Empire had a PG12 rating.
They were awesome, started collecting Star Wars stuff and books for years.
After a few years I watched more Trek and Gate.

Trekwise I prefer Voyager, most realistic in the acting of the crew.
Gatewise I prefer SG1, before they joined up with Farscape that is.

RE: Stars!
The only issue I've ever had with Star Trek is the aliens. "Oh look, here's a guy with a different bumpy forehead. He must be a new alien." They just seemed uninspired.

Star Wars had kick ass alien species; they were all greatly varied. Unfortunately, only the original trilogy featured three dimensional characters. The others were very flat.

I never watched the Stargate series, but the original movie was a lot of fun.

The best sci-fi characters by far, hands-down: Firefly/Serenity.

RE: Stars!
It's an old thread but I'll throw it out there anyway:

Stargate SG-1 is a subpar movie but the series is AWESOME!! The key is to not take it too seriously, though. What's with all the SG-1 hating? It's true the later seasons got a little weird when half the team left.

I haven't watched much Trek other than the movies, sadly. I want to watch it but don't have netflix or anything.

Star Wars is classic, can't go wrong there.

I hope I don't get crucified for bring this thread back up...

That's what a ship is, you know. It's not just a keel and a hull and a deck and sails, that's what a ship needs but what a ship is... what the Black Pearl really is... is freedom. -Jack Sparrow

None of the above. Mass Effect series.

If we came from dust, then why is there still dust?
