I haven't talked to or read anything from people who are actually happy about their investments losing value. What I have heard is speculation as to how this will affect Trump's approval ratings. Typically, presidents don't mention the DOW too much when talking about the economy because it is so volatile, but Trump has continually used it as a bragging point.

I suppose he could try some type of double standard, where if it's up, it's because of Trump's great decision-making, but if it's down, it's because people listening to Satan Democrats, but that's a pretty hard sell to anyone but his loyal 35%.

TL;DR: No one is happy about lost investments, but some are happy Trump might get egg on his face.

And isn't that telling?
People's principles evaporate if their bottom line gets effected.
Shall we engage in another spirited debate over progressive tax policy or redistribution of income?
People are all the same.
Very few of them have the capacity to smell their own shit.

OK fine. I admit it.
We have the same gift.
But we are the few who are disabused of continuing to deny our stink when others furrow their brows.
Embrace the stink.
And don't call it daisies.

Quote:Major stock indexes dropped sharply Friday, with the Dow Jones industrial average tumbling 666 points amid signs that wage growth is finally picking up.

The 2.6 percent drop in the Dow came as the Labor Department reported that 200,000 jobs were added to the economy last month, which was stronger than expected, and the unemployment rate stayed at 4.1 percent — the lowest since 2000.

But worries about inflation grew when the report showed that average hourly wages grew 2.9 percent from a year ago — the largest increase since June 2009. Yields for 10-year Treasurys hit four-year highs Friday.

I guess Satan is still in the White House.

No no, you're doing it wrong. You need this too:

‘Bobbing’ is what markets do, its their ’thing’. Goodevil

However, over the last 91 years since the current tabulation has been in place (1926-2017) the trend has been up. The shorter the time frame the more dynamic, shall we say, the fluctuations are.

Here is a really good piece (it has charts & graphs Big Grin ) on Bull & Bear market corrections since 1929.

Now we are close to a long overdue full blown typical 10% correction. In the words of Jim Cramer "BUY!BUY!BUY!". Thinking about deferring my retirement so I can keep contributing to the TSP and BUY!BUY!BUY!

I may gamble a little (just a little) but I am basically staying out. I just don't like the long term outlook with all that deficit. Without fresh blood (immigrants) to inject money into the economy, and possibly without as many foreign investors, I see the economy performing badly as the trump excitement wears off. So, no long term anything for me. Just gambling, buying and selling in short order. And very little of that.
