A fairy that collects teeth and puts money under pillows, now that is crazy but string theory, well that is science :coffee:

I agree with you for the time being. These things need to be proven.

The LHC might be able to test for certain aspecst of string theory. If they are not there it will not look good for it.

You always agree with me......

RE: String theory
I never said that I agree with it. Though I am open to the possibility. I love reading and am now reading a book on string theory and that's how this particular with my ex father in law arose. I only accept theories when sufficient evidence has been provided for such theories.

Well then here is to the day you say something I disagree with.

Commie. Tongue

I don't have much faith in string theory. The general consensus, however, is that beyond the Standard Model, it's the only game in town. Undecided

RE: String theory
Right, that's what I have heard/read. Like I said there is insufficient evidence for it thus as for now, until more evidence arises I remain skeptical.

My reason for this thread was for my ex father in laws comment more than string theory itself. Though I do find great interest in theoretical physics I do not know enough about it in general to speak intelligently on it as my field is in evolutionary biology. All I know is what I have read thus far.

That's just a god of the gaps confirmation of his bias. Keeps leaning towards young earth, he's gonna fall off. Tongue

RE: String theory
HA! I couldn't agree more. He tried telling me that there was a problem with isotope dating rocks and that it was inaccurate, for example, he said, one group of scientist will get one date and another group will get another date. I told him, Yes that is mot likely true, but both calculations are probably within the statistical margin of error so in actuality they do match.

I think the saddest part is that he is a soil scientist and I wish I could put that in quotes but he got his degree from University of California at Davis, but obviously did not learn anything.
