if she continues to improve, she will go to a rehab facility where they will work with her to try to get her functioning as much as she can. Medicare will pay for some most likely, but its limited. She will be assessed, they will work with her some, but it won't be what you expect because they have many patients to serve and there is only so much time in a day to see them all. If she makes it to this point, then family pitching in to do the therapy with her will make a big difference.

I think the DNR is an excellent choice.

The DNR is what I think I would have done. I asked my mom and she said that if she ever gets to that state, to just pull the plug or initiate a DNR. I can't argue because I am a huge fan of dying with dignity and choosing the way you want to go. I just wish that we knew what my grandmother wants.

She is a fighter, which is why I am conflicted on this more than I usually would be.

My mom opted for a "DNR" just in case. Which, in my opinion, is the kindest option. If she does live through this, she will be placed in hospice care which my uncles insurance does not pay for.

But doesn't she have Medicare ? They pay 100 % for Hospice care.
Sorry man. She knows you're there.

RE: Stroke
We are planning for today to be the final day.

When my mom asked me if I would like to come to watch her die, I simply replied "I'll do whatever you need me to do."

She told me to stay here.

Yeah. To be completely honest, I've been preparing myself ever since I got the news of her stroke, that I've accepted it before it actually happened. I've only the certainty that she is no longer in the pain that she has been. She fought, but sometimes, you just can't win.

Seems it was fast if today was the day. That indicates that it was time. Doesn't make it a whole lot easier though. Hugs.
