Suggestions To Save The World
I'm interested in reading what others might suggest to make the world a better place. For example...

Fighting world hunder could be as simple as telling people to eat more.

If you had the power to improve things what would you do?

This absolutely made my day.

How about: if you're cold, put on a sweater.

That was good but I think you could do better by expanding the subject of global warming.

RE: Suggestions To Save The World
The power to improve things, do you mean some god-like powers to feed the hungry, which is a power that gods should use more often, or having the money/resources to do something?

If I had the power, I would somehow, with the help of specialists of some sort, make third world countries into democratic welfare states capable of providing welfare to their citizens and of course improve the conditions in the western world too.

Correct me when I'm wrong.
Accept me or go to hell.

Since this is hypothetical any power that work... God like, magic, even The Force.
Imagine if we could divert all the money wasted on wars, politics and religion into science and technology.
I doubt even a god could do that but it's fun to think about.

Civil freaking rights. o_o

I don't mean to impose my beliefs or views on anyone, but it's pretty offensive to me that gays need to fight so hard just to get married. O_o You can't even get civil unions or anything of the like where I live, and relationships without commitments tend to fade away, gay or straight. I'd like people to learn to accept people as people, not by their labels and such. It's a little too much to ask and I doubt stereotype will ever go away completely, but that's something I would change if I had the power to change it.

I am 100% certain that I am wrong about something I am certain about right now. Because even if everything I stand for turns out to be completely true, I was still wrong about being wrong.

Save the world?

I'd get rid of the human race....

Save the human race?

I'd create a stable climate situation on planet earth that couldn't be affected by human activity or geological activity. Then, I would eliminate the gap between rich and poor (and have nobody fight back because it is Truth Addict's will), make desalinization economical so we never have water shortages again, end war, make all governments truly democratic and welfare states, and end the use of money and alter human behavior so they can all be like Star Trek humans. Then, we'd invest heavily into nuclear fusion reactors, and explore the stars, while simultaneously curing all diseases known to man. I'd make sure that everyone has equal access to food an water, and take the appropriate steps to make sure there is enough room/efficiency to grow enough food.

Then, I'd alter the way food is grown to reach the optimum balance between commercialized and organic food. I would disband the idea of nationalities and ethnic groups and create a true global village where you belong to only one race- the human race.

And finally, I would eliminate religion. And Justin Bieber.

Good luck with that. I think we are in for a long wait for mankind to evolve to the point where we can accept others as they are. It appears that most of our problems are the result of ignorance and lack of intelligence.

Horry clap! (That's Japanese for "wow")
You really put some thought into this. I agree with most of it... the part that wouldn't work is the "welfare state" idea.
Consider this... let's say "Fred" didn't go out with his friends and spent his time doing his homework so he got an "A" in class.
On the other hand, "Suzie" being the party girl didn't bother with her homework and got an "F".
To balance things out it makes sense to take half of Fred's grade and give it to Suzie so everyone gets a respectable "C".
That's just great except that Fred just got screwed. In a way he was punished for his effort while Suzie was rewarded for having fun. It wouldn't be long before everyone balanced out automatically. There would be no incentive for achievement.
That's why socialism doesn't work.

Quote:That's why socialism doesn't work.

That's a little overly simplistic, though. The word "socialism" gets thrown out a lot in the US lately and I think most people don't really know what the word really means. And, to some extent, and contrary to what you may have read since Obama's election, the US has had degrees of socialism for a long, long time, including under Bush.

Dealing with just the concept of the "welfare state", I don't get why anyone would embrace that and want to see more of it. Welfare has generally been a total failure. Rather then rescuing people from poverty, welfare has simply entrenched them in it. And, that is true the world over. Yes, there are individuals who break the cycle but, by and large, most don't. That's why in the US the people who were on welfare in the 60s and 70s were the parents of of the next generation of welfare recipients and are now the grandparents of the latest generation of welfare recipients. It is rare to see someone not raised by a family on welfare to slip into it (at least for any length of time) and it is equally rare to see people raised on welfare to rise above living in poverty. It happens, but it is in no way the norm.

Why anyone would ask for more of that kind of system is beyond me.

RE: Suggestions To Save The World
I guess removing money would get rid of the need for welfare...

What I meant by a "welfare state" was a state the provided free healthcare and other services like that. Perhaps I used the wrong wording, but again, removing money removes the need for welfare.

As for incentive for achievement, that is why I would alter human behavior so we strive to achieve for the simple reason to better ourselves and society- like Star Trek's universe. There is no need for money, and nobody would be lazy.

Remember folks, we have magic at our hand. With God's will, anything is possible.
