We're not even slightly getting the whole story here.

RE: Suspended for saying "bless you"?
Hmmm Consider

It said she (the suspended girl) didn't simply say, "bless you" but shouted it from across the room.

Personally, I think it's a bit silly to have "bless you" as "forbidden words" tho also.

Just this morning my dog sneezed loudly and I said "bless you" to him.

After reading the article tho, I asked my husband if I could be suspended from doing housework and cooking for the day....

He flatly said no. Big Grin

I hope there's more to the story tho...

RE: Suspended for saying "bless you"?
My daughters 2 nd grade teacher would always start the year with the same thing on " meet the teacher/parent" night.

I won't believe half of what the students say about you if you don't believe half of what they say about me.

Meaning kids tell teachers all sorts of stories about home, their family, etc and most of it is out of context or missing important details or simply made up. And those same kids go home and tell their parents crazy stories about the teachers, classmates, etc.

I am betting the student yelled it and was disrupting the class. But even so, a suspension is overkill unless this is a typical routine for this student.

I was just thinking...I wonder if the whole story isn't bullshit to begin with.

It just has that urban legend ring to it.

As a former teacher, I can almost guarantee that the student is a loud, obnoxious person who takes every opportunity she can to be disruptive.

The last paragraph is the tell-tale. She was probably sent to the principal's office not because of what she said but how she said it. She's probably been warned over and over again about yelling across the room/blurting out. Likewise, the discussion about "bless you" was probably a prior topic that was discussed at a different time.

The student is more than likely using the situation to create something that isn't there... getting suspended for saying "bless you".

A teeny tiny bit more detail, but no word from the school

Agreed. We will never get the 100% full story.

And no matter what, she's going to claim religious freedom, freedom of speech, whatever suits their needs.

I do think suspension is a little much, but who knows about her typical behavior.

I wouldn't get too bent, personally. I drop "Jesus Christ" and all sorts of slurs still. Meh. Pick your battles, I guess?
