RE: Take the Elevator to Heaven
I had a girlfriend once who was in a chuch group. One of the leaders explained the meaning of Stairway to Heaven to the group. I don't remember enough of what my then girlfriend told me that he said so I can't repeat it accurately. I do, however, remember that he had many of the lyrics totally wrong. They are printed on an insert sleeve that came with the record, so the only reason he could be wrong is that he didn't bother to do even the tiniest and most obvious piece of research. How much more religious can you get?

A lot of musicians are not masters of recording equipment. Some bible thumping evangelist hired a recording engineer to discreetly place that message there so that later it could be "discovered" and used to discredit the band, the style of music, the music industry and the youth of the world. You cannot prove that this didn't happen, so it happened.

Funny thing is, I wouldn't be the slightest bit surprized if it was true.

Ok, I have to tell this funny story now, I can't resist any longer. (sry, I know off subject). I was once told by a Christian that Stairway to Heaven was a Christian song. That the line "she's buying her stairway to heaven" meant she was tithing. Can't you just picture the Christian rock band at church rocking out to stairway to heaven as they passed the collection plate. "Here you go everyone, put in some money to buy your way into heaven." LMAO....silly Christians...

What's not funny about that is it was exactly that issue that was a main cause in Martin Luther nailing up his 99 theses, as the church at the time was selling indulgences in remission of temporal punishment.

RE: Take the Elevator to Heaven
I've always loved these allegations that rock bands put satanic messages on their records and you had to play the record backwards? Who plays a record backwards? How do you play a record backwards? You have to play a record at a certain speed for it to even sound like anything. The numbers associated with the disk are, the revolutions per a minute (RPM) you need to get for it not to sound like gibberish. So, if you play a 45 at a different speed, you get either a very slow sounding song or what sounds like Dolphin porn. The same would be true of playing it backwards, so how could a band know people would pay it at a speed where it could make any sense?

Complete nonsense.

what's even sadder, though, is people who try to blame music for their kids turning to drugs, to crime or, in tragic circumstances, to suicide. To quote comedian Dennis Miller: "If anything Gene Simmons has to say turns your kid into a criminal, you're just not doing your job as a fucking parent".

Shackle their minds when they're bent on the cross
When ignorance reigns, life is lost

You can't play a record backwards. What these people do is record the record onto a reel to reel tape machine and then turn the tape around. It will then play in the opposite direction. I have done this to create special effects in music. Jimi Hendrix's song "Are You Experienced" has a rhythm guitar track and a lead guitar track recorded this way.

When you play a song backwards you can easily get the impression that you hear things that where never intended because it just sounds weird. Anyone who wants to believe something could easily think that they hear it, like people who find pictures of Jesus or Mary in toast, mahogany wood etc. I would suspect that everyone who would do this to prove satanicisms in music would be evangelical type people who would also be able to convince themselves that that funny sound actually said whatever they wanted it to say. They are full of shit.

This is the domain of recording engineers and anyone who records a record onto a reel to reel tape machine has the opportunity to ADD STUFF TO THE RECORDING. This I suspect is common and would mean that they create forgeries. In other words, they are engineering a lies, pun intended. How very christian of them.

This is correct. Blaming others for ones failings is all too common.
