Talent Shows
Another type of programme that gets on my nerves.

Idol, Xfactor, Britain's Got Talent etc.

I don't know why but I've been watching these programmes for over 30 years in one way or another. Of course back then it was a little less of an ordeal watching Opportunity Knocks or New Faces compared to the shit the talent show has become.

Firstly cos I've been watching them so long, I'm just not impressed with good singers anymore. I've seen so many good singers over the years in these competitions that I just can't tell one from the other anymore. The only reason I watch them now is for the bad auditions.

Then we have the sob stories and the drama. Shit I don't care about. They should have 2 new categories next year... The 'My Parents are Dead' category and the "I was bullied at school" category.. Cos thats all people seem to talk about on these shows.

I don't care about your family dramas, I don't care about how much of a dream it is... I just want you to sing badly so I can point at my screen and laugh.

But I'll carry on watching.

RE: Talent Shows
I never bother with the actual shows. I just watch the latest best or worst of the year compilation every once in a while.

RE: Talent Shows
I believe the reality of those shows about as much as the stuff they put on The History Channel. I bet at least half of it is set-up.

RE: Talent Shows
I watched a couple of the middle seasons of American Idol. Seemed that some of the 'winners' were far from the best. In fact, some of the winners have disappeared completely.

Actually, most of what's on TV any more is shit.

Except Game of Thrones and it's the off-season. Sadcryface

I dislike talent shows (specifically 'general' shows that aren't supposed to specialise) because they are predictable.

If there's a fucking halfway "decent" singer, they will win. At least it's how it goes down here every single time.
Super awesome magic act? You'll go through a few rounds because we need token magic, but we'll kick you for singers. Comedian? Unless you sing at the same time, you can fuck off. Polar bears dancing on giant perfect spheres made of platinum? That's cool and all, but can they sing?

The people closely associated with the namesake of female canines are suffering from a nondescript form of lunacy.

RE: Talent Shows
They've taken the ridiculous reality show turn for the worse. Short of a select few actual talented performers, the rest is staged and corny as fuck. It literally makes me nauseated.

RE: Talent Shows
Sort of off topic, but..

One of the things that makes me crazy with shows today is what I see as the 'Survivor' formula.

Cooking competitions, those bachelor-type shows, even the real estate shows where people are choosing between three houses have the same formula. From 'you have been voted off the island' to 'you've been chopped' it's all the same thing with different background themes. Leading to an answer just to cut to a commercial then playing the previous few minutes of the show again...it's all the same crap. That replay crap-like we forgot what happened three minutes ago means that much less time spent on the actual content.

Extinguish your torch, turn in your apron, the big countdown of votes, silly props, and fake anticipation...it's all blah, blah, blah.

RE: Talent Shows
America's got Talent is rather amusing - but predictable.......

Every once in a while (maybe once a show) something will be outstanding.....

And yeah -- singers get too much of the spotlight....
