On a more serious note, this snippet in the New Yorker.

“... it is also obtuse to ignore the special comfort that certain white men have using guns as props in their acts of not-quite-civil disobedience. After all, guns were how they acquired their special sense of entitlement to public lands in the first place.”

Turn off the power to the building - and come back in the spring -- and see if these characters do a "Donner Party" when the snack food runs out....

It looks like that's exactly what they're planning to do. 1) Cut off the power. 2) Cut off the phone lines (ain't no way there's cell service out there). and finally 3) Block the only road leading into the place. These meatheads clearly have not thought this through and they were relying on a sympathetic response from the American people and GOP presidential candidates and right wing blogosphere that they aren't getting. Now they're going to get see what lack of freedom really means in genpop.

All that's left is the surrender, trials and sentencing.

The Hammonds' are going to be out of jail before any of these thugs. I ain't no lawyer but I think they could be looking at charges of sedition.

I don't think this rises to the level of sedition. I doubt most of them see jail time. Right now they are guilty of criminal trespass, breaking and entering and possibly some laws on bringing guns onto public lands. The rest of this is just noise and drama. I suppose the Justice Department could get creative but that seems like a way to just turn them into folk heroes. I bet most of them get slaps on the wrist.

Does it make any legal difference that the building they took over was a federal building instead of say the county courthouse?

RE: Terrorist Attack in Oregon
It makes it federal instead of state, although there are probably a number of state crimes in play here too. I suppose the Feds could turn the whole thing over to the state of Oregon but I'd be surprised if they did that.

Nah, they'll be sent to one of Obama's commie-pinko-socialist-atheist reeducation camps.
