Texting Cryptography
I've been amused by this subject for many years. Long before there was phone texting - there was a small group of people who did text --- over the air. Military radio operators as late as the 1990's used radioteletype - and the operators would occasionally use cryptic little things in transmission to indicate things to the other operators that weren't "official" traffic.

For instance -- the "smiley face" of a colon followed by a closed parenthesis was fairly common. The operators snuck this stuff in following the ending of a message -- and it was assumed by those who didn't know - that it was simply garbage --- which was commonplace on this sort of circuit.

Another favorite of mine was this

..!./

Crude, yes, in more ways than one. But it delivered the message.

With today's cellphone texting - space is at a premium - so sometimes innovative contractions, abbreviations and other methods are employed - sometime amusing.

I came up with one on spur of the moment - and sent it to my SO, so she could pick up stuff on the way home.

I don't say this enough: I love you DLJ.

Give me your argument in the form of a published paper, and then we can start to talk.
