"Thank God" alternatives
Anyone have some good alternatives to saying "thank God"? I am a relatively new Atheist, and am trying my hardest to shed as many of these indoctrinated statements as possible.

It's a difficult habit to break, lol. Goodness seems like a viable option.

RE: "Thank God" alternatives
I say things like: 'Oh god!" and "god damnit!" all the time.

I never even grew up in a religious faith.

Honestly, I feel no real need to replace it. I like breaking 'gods law', any time you say 'god damnit' you are essentially spitting upon gods words and laws.

Ultimate show of defiance.

Haha, I definitely agree with the enjoyment of breaking the commandment by saying goddamnit, which I do quite frequently. I only get irritated at myself when I say a habitual phrase which gives praise, or anything else positive for that matter, to "God".

Those habits are hard to break, but the mind - and mouth - can be trained. Such curses are so ingrained in the social fabric that they are expected; the alternatives can raise a few eyebrows when spoken in spontaneity. I've gotten several with my "oh my Gwynnies!" and "dammit Gwynnie!" Big Grin

Who cares, it doesn't mean anything anyway.

I care. I don't want anyone thinking I'm worshipping the wrong god. Even accidentally. Big Grin

Silly billy. Nobody associates "oh my god" with that person being religious. Hell, if anything those that say "oh my gosh golly" are the religious ones...
It's just one of those things people say.

I'm not talking about Nowhere New Zealand. I'm talking about Center of the Universe Merica. Tongue

Besides, you might notice a difference if you stopped being a sheeperson. Big Grin

Maybe not in our great nations, bastions of relative sanity they are.

But we must remember, Muffs. These are Americans here, they have yet to pull themselves far enough out of their own squalor to see clearly. We must take sympathy and pity upon such dirty, unlearned peasant-nations.
