An article from cracked about 6 symbols that started out meaning something else...like the Jesus fish. It was at one point in time used to symbolize a vagina. I will definitely enjoy seeing those from now on for a good chuckle to myself.

Much as I dislike christianity and those bumper stickers, that article is pure bollocks. Early christians used it as a recognition symbol:

'fish' in Greek is IXΘΥΣ
The initial letters can stand for:

Ίησοῦς Iesous Jesus
Χριστός Christos Christ
Θεοῦ theou of god
Υἱός yios son
Σωτήρ soter saviour

The fish symbol was handy because it could easily be drawn - for example, with a foot in the dust - as an handily erasible and deniable recognition sign when christians were persecuted.

I don't think that they are denying that they adopted it in part because of its easiness to draw, but that it was not original. Like most all of their symbols, including the cross, and the halos.
