Thawing the turkey
My husband bought our turkey a little over two weeks ago and put it in the meat area on the bottom of our fridge. So it's been thawing all this time. It's about a 20 lb bird and blood has leaked from the packaging as it has thawed. Geez, it seems like that's a long time to thaw a turkey. Do you guys think it's still ok to eat? My husband always cooks the turkey and say's it's fine but I'm worried. How long do you guys usually thaw a turkey?

RE: Thawing the turkey
That basically means the surface of your Turkey has been thawed for the last two weeks, and the surface is where all the bacteria grow. Granted, cooking kills most of it, but I dunno....would you eat a chicken breast that's been thawed for two weeks? I wouldn't.

"Thawing the turkey"

I would rinse it thoroughly under cold running water, but I always do that regardless. Skepticism is not a position; it is an approach to claims. Science is not a subject, but a method. ![]() |

Really? I mean, what do I know? But that just seems like a really long time for poultry to me.

I wouldn't eat it - that scares the stuffing out of me (see what I did there?).
But maybe that's just me. My 15 pound bird has been in the fridge since Sunday night. See here they are the bruises some were self-inflicted and some showed up along the way. - JF |
