The Afghan Womens Orchestra "Zohra" at Davos 2017
At Davos 2017, unique performance by the Afghan Women's Orchestra "Zohra", a group of 30 brave young women who are the first to learn music in their country in more than three decades, including the country's first female conductors. They are joined by members of the youth orchestra of the Collège de Genève and demonstrate the power of cross-cultural dialogue through music.

That is a fascinating collection of instruments. Besides the western orchestral strings, they've got everything from India to Turkey represented.

The scales sound local, but the music has a decidedly modern feel. Is the music original or traditional -- or both? Are any of the orchestra members composing for the group?

It's a good thing they went to Switzerland. Trumpistan might not have let them in.
