Video The Arabic Golden Age (video)

From the description:

Quote:Today The Arabic World is one of the most religious regions in the world where religion have a great impact in peoples everyday life. This however have not always been the case. Once the region was the intellectual peak of human civilization where science and reason flourished. This is the story of The Arabic Golden Age...

It is sad it ended the way it did.Sadcryface

"Examine the religious principles, which have, in fact, prevailed in the world. You will scarcely be persuaded, that they are any thing but sick men's dreams." - David Hume

Actualy. No.

From the Umayyads and the revolts of the descriminated Persians.

To the Almogaves butchering of infidels.

To the massacre of Cordoba

To the dhimis of the Ottoman empire

Dont be fooled by notions of an "Islamic golden age".

Real notions of not just tolerance but also social equality really only started to evolve in 18th century Europe as the French brought down their monarchy.

RE: The Arabic Golden Age (video)
It was a golden age for Arabs because they invaded areas previously occupied by Romans and Greeks. The video calls it the 'translation' period where the Arabs translated works of Europeans. So, it was a period marked by violent aggression and copying of existing ideas. The reason this empire came into being was because the Arabs wanted the wealth of the European rulers of the area for themselves.

It's like calling the Ottoman Empire a "golden" age. The Mongol Turks drove out the Greek Byzantines from Turkey in 1453. That resulted in a shift of intellectual and cultural development from the Eastern Christian Mediterranean back to Rome and gave rise to the European Renaissance. What followed was a Muslimification of the area which became an intellectual and cultural dead zone for the next 500 years contributing nothing to science or anything else of any note until Ataturk dismantled it and replaced it with a secular republic after WWI, and it is now struggling under a corrupt Islamic government which is dismantling the rule of law and is today a de facto dictatorship.

Sad indeed.
