My Oma made it with the crumbs too.

I enjoy baking - mostly because I like baked goods. Drinking Beverage

My repertoire is limited to pies, cakes, brownies, and cookies; nothing fancy.

I am the family shortbread cookie maker, though I am trying to teach the next generation.
This is a traditional Scottish shortbread, a family recipe.

Another family recipe is our family birthday cake which is my grandmother's chocolate cake with Sea Foam frosting.

The family recipes are closely guarded secrets. Torture wouldn't make me divulge them.

I don't bake anything I can't throw in my bread machine. Just never got into it. I did make banana bread for a while years ago, that stuff is too good.
I agree, the scent alone is wonderful. Especially freshly baked and it fills the whole kitchen Smile
But I have to disagree on the crumbs:
I am a Bavarian original and I have never had Zwetschgendatschi without the buttercrumbs. Not from the bakery and not from home. Might be special for my area though, dunno. I am originally from Munich.
I know they also sell it without the crumbs sometimes, but I don't feel satisfied without the crumbs!
All hail to the butter crumbs!

That's funny! I am born and raised in Munich, and I never saw any Zwetschgendatschi with crumbs. That would make it Streussel...

K, but I've been too worried lately and when I am, I tend to confuse words, a type of receptive aphasia, if you will. A man forewarned, you know...

RE: The Baking Thread
I baked a cake for a friend to thank him for baking me a pie.
Then I wasn't sure if it was appropriate to bake cakes for people other than your boyfriend, so I baked a second one for him so he wouldn't get jealous.
Now I have two cakes in my fridge, and they must remain there until Tuesday. That's the hard part.
