No.

It's interpreting it as closely to the oldest text and according ancient the culture and history. Calvinist doctrine is because of this. Not the other way around.

@KC, No I mean like there is no god, just humans deciding what verses mean to them. Slight difference.

But I am interested: if Calvinism is right, and predestination rules, then there is no reason to bother converting people. We either are or are not in the elect, so it's pointless. You should direct your energies elsewhere.

Interpretation is interpretation.

Ahhh, the good ole "then why are you here" question.

Not to be rude, but that's kind of pompous.

Do I need a reason to be here?

Why are you here?

Is your reason any less valid than mine?

Just saying... there seems to be an inaccurate sense of ownership from some atheists when they come here as well as a sense of xenophobia from anyone who isn't.

This is the exact behavior that many atheists complain that theists practice towards them.

Moreover, it takes a lot of gall to say, "You should direct your energies elsewhere." You have no idea what I do for this forum to make it the way it is. Chas, Scot, Hughsie, and I work our butts off behind the scenes so you can have a healthy environment to post in.

I know you didn't mean for it to come across this way; however, you seem to show me disrespect for the simple fact that I'm a Christian.

How is that okay?

RE: The Book of Life (God's Big Book of Names)
I'm allowed to wonder why you are here. It's a legitimate question. If you hold the opposite belief than most here, attempt to refute points, and assert what you believe to be the truth, then it's not a stretch to think maybe conversion is the purpose.

You can hide behind the disrespect label all you want. But I can ask why you're here. Egor presumed I was here to find faith in another thread. Somehow that's permissible not to mention his disrespect of us, since using that word. I suppose he's still here because he amuses us. I have no idea.

But do not tell me what I'm allowed to wonder.
