Now all he has to do is explain how, why, when, where, and in what context that particular piece of human literary endeavor was written by a human, what motivated the writer to write the words he wrote, when, why and how it was included in some canons and not others, and what it meant in the context of the day it was written.

The assumption that one could just read an ancient text, and NOT know all that other information is so utterly delusional, it's beyond imagination.

By the way Mark, have you met Mikey. Mikey-The-Conflicted-Gay-Theist ?
He's been kicked off all the other boards, so he ended up here, as we are the only ones who tolerate insanity along with the rest.
Mikey, meet Mark. He know more about Christianity that you'll ever hope to.
Mark could perhaps help you with your Psych needs, as he's actually been to school.

Oh! This is the celibate gay guy? Hasn't he found true love yet? Doesn't your boyfriend have any friends he can set him up with?

It was just a fucking apple man, we're sorry okay? Please stop the madness Laugh out load

However, regarding the Easter Bunny and Santa Claus, I always thought of those as a way of indoctrinating children. Sitting in church listening to boring tales about Jesus could turn kids away from religion, but bring in the fun "guys", Santa Claus and the Easter Bunny and they're ready to buy into "religion" hook, line, and sinker. When they get older and it's time to learn about the real meanings of Christmas and Easter, they will be far more ready to merely accept what they are told - who wants to question something that brings presents and candy?

So, if you're criticizing non-believers for these holidays, try looking at the believers who are the ones truly responsible.

The criticism would have been directed at the believers if criticizing had been the point. The point was that the two, the believers and the non-believers are the same. Politically motivated in opposite directions, perhaps from necessity.

1. The atheist will bitterly denounce the mythical.
2. Except for teaching their young children materialism.
3. The theist will bitterly denounce paganism.
4. Except for teaching their young children tradition.

The majority of modern day Christian teachings are pagan in origin, adopted by the apostate church. Trinity, cross, holidays, immortal soul, hell.

Interesting, but I'm not a Christian.

Around here with all the witches involved, Samhain gets a few parties, and for sure we know what we're celebrating. Easter doesn't even get noticed, and Yule is just an excuse for consumptive capitalism. Which is fun, once in a while. Big Grin

Consider the children of the atheist and the theist during Easter and Christmas.

Yeah, I noticed that. Random and reluctant, passive participation based upon a faulty translation. How very atheist of you.

Besides the Bible how many texts can you name that claim divine inspiration? The Quran? The Book Of Mormon? The Analects? Tao Te Ching? Chuang Tzu? Kojiki? Nihongi? Pirqe Aboth? Bhagavad Gita?
