RE: The Goodnight Thread
Not so fast, bucko. I have a story to tell and like I'm telling it. There'll be a pop quiz one of these days...

‘Now I know why you only sing at night. If I were so plain-looking, I wouldn’t want anyone to look at me, either.’

The nightingale, who had always been a bit shy and insecure, was so mortified and hurt, that it burst into tears and left.

That was the last straw - the animals went straight to the forest wizard to ask for his help. They told him what had happened and pleaded with him to do something. As much as it pained him, the wizard went to find the beetle and with one wave of his wand turned its lovely red wings completely black.

The poor little beetle was so humiliated and heart-broken, that it couldn’t stop crying and only wanted to hide in the deepest hole in the ground and never have anyone look at it again. The other animals took pity on it and again went to the wizard, saying:
‘It already knows how it feels like to be plain-looking. It’ll surely change its ways. Please, make its wings the way they were before.’

The wizard agreed, but he had one condition – the beetle had to find the nightingale and bring it back. Only then would he give it its red wings back.

The beetle immediately stopped crying and flew away, looking for the nightingale. Many were the animals it met on its way and some made fun of it, just like it used to, when it was pretty.
Only then did the beetle finally understand how much it hurts when others see only our imperfections and use them to hurt us.

Finally, it found the nightingale, apologised most sincerely and they returned to the forest together. The first thing the beetle did was to go to the wizard and ask him to change it back. The wizard lifted his wand and just like that the wings of the beetle became red, just like they were before… Or almost like they were - no longer completely red, they now had tiny black dots - to remind the beetle that no one is perfect and that we must accept others the way they are.

And this is how the ladybird got its spots, which it has to this very day.

Okay, off you go now.
