Racism has been a huge part of my life. You can't escape it here in Southern Africa. Like it or not your life is defined by it. From a very young age kids are made aware of it. It's almost in the air we breathe. So from both sides... nowadays, things like that, I devour them. African history... all that stuff... just to try to understand how this toxic thing became so entrenched...

Yeah, I'm grateful I grew up in a place without a history of racial conflicts (heaps other conflicts though) and was able to form my own views without being saddled with century-old prejudice and hate.

How it became entrenched - tribal instinct. Some people just can't let go of the us-or-them mentality. Says more about their lack of self-worth than anything else, yet they are still poisoning the world for the rest of us.
