RE: The Greatest Lie Ever Told: God Loves Everyone
I find the greatest lie ever told to be "hey, there's a deity, and it needs you to worship it, oh and money, it needs money, a certain percent, and if you don't it's going to torture you forever"

Of course.... isn't that list one that gets the phrase "oh but that's the OLD testament! It's all about the NEW testament now! The old testament is about god's harshness to guide people, the new testament is about god's love and is all you need to worry about" or even "That's the OLD testament, it only applied to the Jews."

The greatest lie ever told is that the promise of a postmortem preservation of identity is even fucking imaginable, let alone tenable.

As it was in the beginning is now and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.
And I will show you something different from either
Your shadow at morning striding behind you
Or your shadow at evening rising to meet you;
I will show you fear in a handful of dust.

Now that you mention it, isn't it silly that Catholics baptize newborn babies so that when they die they will get to heaven? A personality is shaped by your enviroment, by your experiences and the people you spend your time with. Are they magically granted an identity so that they are able to communicate with everyone else?

And that every question that one can think of is answerable by god.

Now some random verse about unicorns!

Numbers 23:22
God brought them out of Egypt; he hath as it were the strength of an unicorn. He shall eat up the nations his enemies, and shall break their bones, and pierce them through with his arrows.

Reading from the KJV, I see.

I like this version:
God hath brought him out of Egypt, whose strength is like to the rhinoceros. They shall devour the nations that are his enemies, and break their bones, and pierce them with arrows.

I'm diggin' the rhino. Thumbsup

Seriously, KC, it just doesn't matter.

We don't have the originals, we can use textual analyses to approximate them.
In the end, atheists see it as a book of superstition and fables and the precise translation just isn't the issue.

Skepticism is not a position; it is an approach to claims.

It is if it's blatantly mistranslated.
