My idea is the meaning of life for an atheist is freedom.

Now you can do something beautiful and wonderful, choose something for your self.

For example

Carl Sagan's idea was that were were star dust. Here as a way for the universe to know it's self.

A personal favorite of mine. Now if you mean a universal meaning, as in as set reason, I will have to say there is none. But to live to its fullest and to make others happy "yourself included" Is life's greatest gift

I do not think there is any. We can impact the people around us but it will fade as people die. We can impact history but as humanity disappears so will the meaning of that impact. We might, if we really try hard enough, impact the earth permanently but it will disappear when the earth dies. I would like to borrow from the movie "the bucket list". The two questions you should ask yourself when you search for purpose is: Will your life bring you joy with this purpose? Will it bring joy to others? If the answer to both questions is yes, then you have found a great purpose in life. But an inherent purpose or a universal meaning to life? no, we are as the animals and our lives are just a fraction of a moment when you look at the total sum of the universe. So if you're looking for meaning, find something that is meaningful to you and you are set.

I will go out and argue that there is a meaning to life. It may not be predetermined in anyway, but in a rather simplistic sense, do we not all forge our own meanings and purposes for life? If not, why are any of you who say otherwise even here?
