Alas, makes no difference if Trump withdraws from the climate accord or not.

The die is already cast. It's too late. The deniers won; lies were accepted as truth by those who wield influence. It's just another casualty in the War on Truth that conservatives have been waging since Nixon.

Next up: mass human migration, continued and exacerbated conflicts, the spread of tropical diseases, inundation of coastal cities and other fun stuff.

He's sticking to a campaign promise, which helps mollify some of his more disgruntled voters, and supporters argue the accord restricts America's ability to do what it wants with its energy resources - an important sector of the economy.

But the country is setting the emission limits, not an external panel

Usually it takes 4 years to leave the Paris Accord but if Trump decides to pull out of the UNFCCC (United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change) an environmental treaty in force since 21 March 1994, the US could leave the accord in a years' time.

More importantly, if Trump leaves, it could influence other countries to exit as well especially those that don't have climate change prioritised on their agendas

Après nous - le déluge. Literally.

Like I've said before, we* seem hell bent on winning ourselves the ultimate Darwin's Award - not for taking ourselves out of the gene pool but for draining the entire thing.

* Okay, not all of us, but sadly, enough of those who actually have a say in the whole thing.

RE: the Paris Climate Accord
Heard VA Governor McAullife on radio this AM. VA will abide by the accord as if they signed it themselves. I'm guessing CA, MD, WA, OR, et al. won't be far behind. McAullife also indicated that he would make the whole State of VA a "sanctuary" State. There's hope for MD's backass sister State yet.

"The President's dangerous action today will have a devastating impact on our environment, our economy, and our health. The United States economy is dependent on leadership in the world, yet the President seems inclined to sit back and let other nations pass us by. Climate change is a threat to our way of life. If President Trump refuses to lead the response, Virginia will.

Earlier this month I signed an order initiating the process of cutting carbon emissions in our Commonwealth and making Virginia a leader in the clean energy economy. That process will proceed despite this foolish decision by the Trump administration, and I hope states around the country join Virginia in showing Washington the way forward on this critical issue for our nation and our world." - McAullife

RE: the Paris Climate Accord
"Americans are increasingly being convinced that global warming is a hoax, rising seven percentage points over the last year to 23 percent. But 63 percent of Americans still believe in climate change science, and 53 percent are “very” or “somewhat” concerned about the long term ramifications. But the polling data also suggests belief in global warming remained the same, but the numbers of the minority rose because of people who previously “didn’t know” now made up their mind."
