The Shell Game and the WAR on the Constitution
Good folks at TTA Forum, we need to hone our skills. We have
to think differently when confronted with stupidity. This time of year makes me
ill when I hear about the “War on Xmas”.

WHAT we must do is CHANGE the language of what is being
said. NOT change the meanings of words (which most Christians, like Sarah
Palin, do). We have to show them in a game of “Coin a Phrase” what is really
happening.

SO when someone repeats the tired old “War on Christmas”
slogan…challenge them…say it’s NOT a war on Xmas, but it is most certainly a
war. We live in a time where a religious majority wants to impose its faith on
the rest of the nation, they want tax dollars spent to support their religion…a
religion that many many other citizens don’t subscribe to. It’s something VERY
much like we see by the Taliban….and what WE ARE SEE is the WAR ON THE
CONSTUTUTION! It’s that simple. Today’s majority is Christians, but what about
30 years from now if it turned to a Muslim Majority, would they want the
Federal Government to recognize Islam and its holidays? Would they want THEIR
tax payer money to go to supporting Ramadan and tax funded municipalities
having little plastic scenes of Mohammad and his 14 year old wives?

It is INDEED a war…a WAR ON THE CONSTUTIUON! Then ask them
don’t THEY believe in THEIR AMERICAN rights and CONSTITUTION and ask them WHY
this travesty is allowed to persist.

To argue against THE War on Xmas is a losing proposition but
to agree there is a war…just that it’s a WAR ON OUR CONSTITUTION!

Change the way we fight this folks.

My two cents worth.

Right on. Thumbsup

RE: The Shell Game and the WAR on the Constitution
I actually think that is a great approach. Arguing against the "War on Christmas" is futile, because people like Fox's minions will always manipulate stories to make it seem like atheists are trying to get rid of Christmas. You can correct them and expose their lies, but the damage is already done by the time O'Reilley is finished talking.

Instead, atheists should start their own "War" concept, based on something that is often-cited in political matters, especially at Fox, and which Denicio identified - the constitution. It is easy too, because there are lots of examples that, unlike the Christmas charades, are REAL. Everything from institutionalized favoritism of religious charities to laws banning atheists from public office in seven states.

If something can be destroyed by the truth, it might be worth destroying.

PLUS everyone watching Fox has this supposed hard-on for the US Constution, so when you play that card it gets RIGHT to the heart of their Patriotic Belief's!
This idea of how to fight this came to me in those twilight moments before falling asleep!
We need to spread this idea far and wide. Get it to Silverman and all the other folk that end up on TV and Radio.
We must STOP this War on the Constitution!

RE: The Shell Game and the WAR on the Constitution
I'd say that there's such a great difference in degree between American Conservatives beating their chest about Christmas nativity scenes and the Taliban, that it counts as a difference of kind.

That said, it's a very good framing of the fight, except it doesn't cover this crap about retailers saying "Happy Holidays".

What Retailers do is not generally the atheist's fight to fight. Retailers are simply playing it smart, recognizing there is more than one holiday/religion.

Oh, I'm fine with that. Bully for them. What gets my goat is when certain groups backlash at them for not specifying Christmas. THAT'S a matter of Christians trying to beat up on others for not toeing the line, and that IS a fight for atheists.

RE: The Shell Game and the WAR on the Constitution
I have tried explaining this to my wife. She doesn't want to worry about things that are that far into the future. Most christians from my experience don't believe that they will ever be outnumbered by muslims. Even though the evidence is all around us. There is a huge push for sharia law and it will only get worse. They are outbreeding other beliefs at an alarming rate. Give it 20 years and we will probably see sharia law here in the U.S..

RE: The Shell Game and the WAR on the Constitution

This seems like a good addition to this Wink

And this pretty much echoes what I've been thinking for a quite a while now. It didn't start with an exchange with a (presumably) christian fellow to whom I had to explain that "freedom of religion" didn't mean the right to practice it in public (that he seemed to think it meant), but freedom to be a member of a religion and practice it, but also the right to be left the fuck alone if it doesn't interest you, though that did ring a few more alarm bells. Consider

"Life - its the fun thing that happened on the way to the cemetery."
-Poilce Officer Janson, Raid
I live in the land of Santa, fool!
"I disapprove of what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it" - Voltaire
