He touched on a lot of things women are going to like - especially equal pay for equal work.

I only saw a part of it, and I missed the rebuttal entirely. I fell asleep Tongue

He can't enforce equal pay for equal work.

I will find a transcript somewhere and read it. I cannot stand to hear Obama speak. His odd breaks and pauses hurt my head.

I used to do that when Bush was president.

Just off the top of my head....

1. Defense - we spend more in terms of real dollars today than we did at the height of the cold war. We spend more than the combined spends of China, Russia, the UK, Japan, France, Germany --- pretty much the rest of the world. And that's not more than each of them. It's more than all of them. It is indefensible we pour this much money into the miltary industrial complex machine. And, for anyone who is afraid that somehow this could put us at risk, I have a solution to that. We adopt a foreign policy that I like to call the "mind your own fucking business" policy. Let someone else be the world's policeman. All it gets us grief and debt. No one appreciates it and we make ourselves a target. I am all for returing to our xenophobic, isolationist roots.

2. The Federal Department of Education - kill it. Kill the whole thing. It does nothing except make things worse. In the almost 40 years we've had it, has there been any appreciable impact to our education system? Nope. Has it gotten worse? Yep. Is that because fo the Department of Education? Who cares? The point is we are pouring money down this rat hole and getting nothing in return for it. Kill it and be done with it.

3. The SEC. In theory I think the SEC is a good idea but given that all they do is watch porn and never, ever go after anyone who is really doing anything wrong, what is the point? Shut it down and stop pretending anyone in the government gives a fuck what insider traders and stock manipulators are doing. You could probably shut down the portion of the Justice Department that is supposed to investigate and prosecute financil crimes. Since all they do is handshake deals with these guys, why continue to pretend? They can continue to pillage our economy the way they have been doing except without having to deal with the pretense of enforcement and we could save a boatload of money.

4. Centralize all purchasing functions within the government so each department doesns't buy its own cars, own computers, etc. I can only guess how much money that is costing us. Millions. Probably tens of millions. Probably billions

#1 is the big one, though. In 2012 we spent $682 BILLION on defense, and that doesn't count the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. It's an insane amoutn of money.

In theory, I agree one hundred percent. I don't know enough about anything to know whether or not it's a good idea to jump headlong into these actions at this point, but I would get behind us getting to a position that reflects your ideas.

But now I have come to believe that the whole world is an enigma, a harmless enigma that is made terrible by our own mad attempt to interpret it as though it had an underlying truth.

You clearly have a superior intellect and should have an elevated status in our society.
