The Top 10 Shocking Things Christians Don't Know about the Bible
I just came across The Top 10 Shocking Things Christians Don't Know about the Bible and found it a good read. I found the 4th one about the 10 Commandments particularly interesting. Enjoy.

11. Biblical marriage had many definitions. Only one was 1 man + 1 woman. Most were not.

12. St. Paul thought only the saved had eternal life.

13. Christians were actually Jews, and the Jews had a hard time getting them out of their hair.

14. Jesus had many brothers. (Mary was no virgin).

15. Nazareth was a graveyard, and never a town. Jesus could not have lived there.

16. Jesus was called "Rabbi". All Rabbi's were married.

17. There was no trial. They made it up. Jesus was a common criminal, who merited no time from the upper-class Roman aristocrats during the occupation. There was a standing order in the Pax Romana to execute trouble makers, with no trials.

18. Jesus was probably left on a cross to be eaten by crows. Burial was an honor which he did not merit in that culture.

19. When they say they saw a "risen Lord" then did not mean a physical body. In Hebrew culture a "shade" was neither a body nor a "ghost". It's why they did not recognize what they saw, and were afraid of it.

20. Paul's "re-seeing" / conversion event for him actually WAS THE resurrection.

I'm stealing a joke from Dave Barry in Cyberspace here, but it's too good to pass up...

I could go on and on with historical references of the handwriting problem. You would be shocked if I were to tell you the original title of what is now referred to as "The Old Testament" (Basic Sandal Repair).

My girlfriend is mad at me. Perhaps I shouldn't have tried cooking a stick in her non-stick pan.

RE: The Top 10 Shocking Things Christians Don't Know about the Bible
That's pretty interesting stuff in the blog. There are some half-truths here, such as the description of Satan working for God (our current understanding of Satan is built from the book of Enoch rather than any canonical text) or about heaven being a place on Earth (many Christians differentiate the "heaven on Earth" as the "Millennial Kingdom").

But there was one that stuck out: that Exodus 20 doesn't contain the 10 commandments. I went back and checked that in its full context, and sure enough, there is absolutely nothing denoting that these were commandments written on the tablets or that they were the 10 anythings. The actual 10 commandments are in Exodus 34 and are rather unremarkable. I'll be sure to get this right in future discussions of the 10 commandments.

Actually you could justify it. 2 AND 30.
There was no canonical description of the resurrection.

There are many instances where the followers said they said they "experienced" the "risen Lord". What Mark is saying, those statements also did NOT mean they actually saw a physical risen corpse.
