Two Presidents have been impeached (Johnson and Clinton) but neither was convicted, so President Trump could be impeached AND still serve out his term.

Ah, that's got it. Thumbsup

If backed into a corner, I think it entirely possible Trump will resign. Look how easily he gave up on health care reform. Of course he will lie about why he is resigning and many of his followers will believe him. I would guess he would say something like, "The United States government is completely corrupt, so I can't be an effective president blah blah blah." He's nothing if not a heavy-duty projector.

The truth of the matter is that he doesn't have the legal knowledge, the people skills, or the political capital to be an effective president, and since he is a narcissist, he will have to blame other people for his failures.

Better than even money, 4/5 odds means 5 will get you 4, ~56% implied probability of impeach/resign.

Everyday on fb someone posts a clickbaity "this is it" article how there's a new smoking gun or republicans aren't happy...blah blah blah.

Yet...he's still there and to my knowledge no formal articles of impeachment have been submitted.

I'm thinking with the overwhelmingly intact republican support impeachment is highly unlikely.

Now if in two years senate and congress shifts to democrat control, then maybe it's more possible.

They're busy commiting Harakiri by still being republican light. Which seems to be as appealing to younger voters as the small pocks. So the switch is only a remote possibility.

Last I heard, though, after the Republicans failed to get "TrumpCare" through the House, he threatened to start working with the Democrats. That might get the Repubs to impeach him.

Maybe...i don't really think so. At this point it's really wishful thinking.

What will be interesting is if he's elected for a second term. I think democrats need to get serious about finding someone who doesn't carry a lot of baggage (like Clinton did) -- and let the democrats actually pick who with they want without a lot of back room shenanigans -- where one candidate is pushed harder because the establishment democrats believed "it's their turn."

Still it won't change much until we can unite the country. We need someone who can reach the rural voters as easily as city voters and make everyone understand our problems aren't so different.

For years now people are told that city's don't understand the more rural areas problems and vise versa, but when you actually talk to people their problems are more similar.

He's doing his best to fracture that. Today he threatened to primary the Freedom Caucus in 2018. Blink Blink These principled-to-a-fault fuckers won their primaries over other Republicans by like 3-1 and their constituents are every bit as blinded by principle as they are. Trump can't scare them, especially with his approval numbers in the shitter. They didn't trust Trump to begin with and his idle threats and babble about working with the Democrats they sure as fuck ain't gonna start now. As one of the Dem reps pointed out "This is pre-school politics."

Just have to share this comment to a Washington Post article.

Let’s see now:

- The head of the organization calls himself “Don”
- The Don surrounds himself with family and trusted henchmen
- He made his early fortune in casinos until they went bankrupt
- He made his son-in-law consigliere
- He has a trophy wife 25 years his junior who doesn’t live with him
- He controls his operation by making threats
- He holds personal vendettas against others
- He has politicians at his beck and call, and a governor of New Jersey in his back pocket
- He still has his original New York operation, but hangs out at his South Florida resort
- He tells everyone that he’s as good as his word, which is then proven worthless

Welcome to the Cosa Nostra… oops, I mean the Trump White House.

D T Rump "rented" the Republican Party, the Party of No.
Even he didn't think he would win. He lost the popular vote. He's done NOTHING he promised yet, (even the 'day one' crap). His approval is in the crapper. He'll never get re-elected. It was a painful lesson in "reactionary politics".

I hope he doesn't get impeached. Hard lessons are hard, and take time. Many of the things he's doing, (like his appointment of an idiot to the EPA, with no science background) will have to be undone ... his budget is a joke. I wonder if they will be able to get tax reform off the ground ?

They are on break until just before the Funding Bill. Laugh out loadLaugh out loadLaugh out load

RE: The Trump Impeachment Thread
Even Juan Williams, political analyst for Fox News, is seeing the (Cyrillic?) writing on the wall.

"It has been said that predictions make fools of us all. The campaign and the election that brought Trump to power certainly proved that, since the majority of the media — myself included — predicted he would not win.

But it is no liberal fantasy to say the odds of a Trump resignation or impeachment before 2020 are looking better by the day."
