RE: The Trump Impeachment Thread
"We are now talking about impeachment. 'The critical point is that impeachment for obstruction of justice is ultimately not just a legal question; it’s also a political question, albeit a political question highly inflected by the law and often discussed in the language of the law,' the Lawfare post explains. 'The boundaries of the impeachable offense are not coextensive with the boundaries of the criminal law.' In other words, obstruction of justice is what 'a majority of the House of Representatives and a two-thirds majority of the Senate' say it is if the goal is to remove the president so that he can do our democratic institutions and national security no further injury. If Republicans do not act first and are shellacked in the 2018 elections, obstruction may be what a majority of a Democratic-controlled House and two-thirds of the Senate say it is."

Well if we uncover actual Treason, as seems likely, that is not going to be just Trump but everyone that was complicit with it. We might hit double digits in the Presidential succession.

Pence is not Trump, you're way better with him. Trump doesn't play by the rules. Pence will be an idiot, but a rule-bound idiot.

Can you say collusion children? I know that you can.

I mean, fuck this guy right? I hope he spends the rest of his miserable life behind bars as America becomes a better place for the lack of him.

I concur. Pence will be very effective at ruining lives. But 4 years of Trump is just unjustifiable irresponsibility. It's been barely 4 months yet it already feels like like two decades with Trump.

There is no win situation.

Regardless of what happens to Trump, the republicans will continue to rule your country. They will continue to try to take health care away from the poor, they will continue to try to promote coal and fossil fuels over environmental issues. They will continue to push back women's rights and gay rights etc.
They will continue to be bullish when it comes to foreign policy and protectionist when it comes to foreign trade.

Perhaps the noise about a wall and an inquiry into voter fraud will disappear. Kushner and Ivanka will go, maybe some of Trump's billionaire mates will go. (basically the swamp will somewhat be cleared). Bannon will probably go. Conway will go. Probably Spicer will go, he's done too much damage to his own reputation to continue.

I don't know if they will continue to try to demolish public education system.

What will happen though is that they will play inside the constitution and the insane distractions will disappear and you will have a semi intelligent leader rather than a baffoon.

RE: The Trump Impeachment Thread
Associated Press: Dept. of Justice announces former FBI Director Robert Mueller has been appointed Special Counsel to investigate Trump-Russian connections.

Quote:WASHINGTON (AP) — The Justice Department on Wednesday appointed former FBI Director Robert Mueller as a special counsel to oversee a federal investigation into potential coordination between Russia and the Trump campaign during the 2016 presidential election.

The appointment came amid a growing Democratic outcry for someone outside the Justice Department to handle the politically charged investigation.

It followed the revelation Tuesday that fired FBI Director James Comey had written in a memo that Trump, in a February meeting in the Oval Office, had asked him to end an investigation into former national security adviser Michael Flynn. The White House has denied that account.

Mueller was appointed FBI director in 2001 and led the FBI through the aftermath of the Sept. 11 terror attacks. He retired in 2013.

The Justice Department said Mueller has resigned from his job at a private law firm to take the job of special counsel.

The Justice Department declined to explain the decision-making involved in the appointment.

Edit: Looks like Chas beat me to it in a new thread barely; you should go check it out.

Need to think of a witty signature.

That's what happened with Nixon's cronies. 4 of the Watergate 7 went to jail.

As long as it drags on long enough to get to 2018 elections we'll be all right.
