A fact that some people forget is that the Anglo-Saxons didn't stop at the England-Scotland border (which didn't exist at the time, anyway). Modern English is the version that prospered south of the border, but it also prospered north of the border, too and it was called Scots. You might think that Scots is just English with a funny accent, but the language evolved of its own accord in the southern reaches of Scotland.

The Anglo-Saxon word "fuck" entered the English language from the (very similar) Scots language.
