Poll: What will become of humanity in regards to the fate of the universe?
We will know how to escape to another one or to "go back" to the beginning of this one.
We'll live for billions of years until the universe ends.
We'll never get out of the solar system before we go extinct.
We'll never get off the planet before we go extinct.
I don't know.
Let's just keep trying to push frontiers, and if we figure out how to escape the eventual death of the universe, well then that's all fine.

The Universe will eventually die - what do you think will become of us?
This is a question that interests me. How much hope do you give to humanity in dealing with our place in the Cosmos. The answers are in the polls. Choose and elaborate on why you think this.

For myself, I can't say. All I can say is that I'm an optimist and that I hope that we keep trying to solve the next problem that hits us until there is nothing left to solve. Whether or not that is impossible, there is really only one way to find out - keep chugging along.

RE: The Universe will eventually die - what do you think will become of us?
I chose that humanity will end within the solar system.

My belief is that the only way humanity can leave the solar system is by changing itself to such a degree that it no longer resembles a "human". Which means no faster than light travel, no spaceship arks to ferry people to other stars. Maybe some sort of artificial intelligence that can self replicate after thousands of years in space.

So something might jump from star to star, galaxy to galaxy, but it won't resemble anything like humanity on any level.

Where the fuck is "nothing"?

As it was in the beginning is now and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.
And I will show you something different from either
Your shadow at morning striding behind you
Or your shadow at evening rising to meet you;
I will show you fear in a handful of dust.

Yes. The answers are in the poles. All hail, the poles.

Wont most of the protons have decayed by then? Chances are us and all life as we know it would have died out long before the end happens.

Behold the power of the force!

No, I think he meant the Poles.

I truly couldn't begin to guess. But as interesting as it would be, I honestly don't care to see it. Whatever "it" is.

This question is silly. Humans will change as a species into something else, if we do not destroy ourselves.

That species in the far future will have to escape the sun. After they accomplish that it's hard to know.

Well, the Last Question, obviously.

But even if any of our distant descendents remain to deal with it, they'd've long since become something truly non-human and likely unrecognizable.

Interesting to think about, occasionally, but from our point of view here, we aren't even certain how the universe will age, let alone how to react when the time comes.

We are going to fall into a blackhole we didn't see coming and enter a new, young universe. We don't have to leave our solar system, even. Win-win.
