RE: The Wizard of Oz - pro-atheist?
I decided to read the book, because I never had. I was looking for ways that Dorothy related to Toto. Then all of a sudden, all these references to religion started to appear like HUGE red flags! Before the Wizard is revealed the story goes, "I am everywhere," answered the Voice, "but to the common mortal I am invisible." Yes, Voice is CAPITALIZED! Later, after he is discovered and is asked why he keeps the facade, he says, "...who, seeing me come from the clouds, thought I was a great Wizard. Of course I let them think so, because they were afraid of me, and promised to do anything I wished them to."

I am not yet finished, but oh my this is very interesting! And if you're wondering, Toto does not seem to play as big a part in the book as he does in the movie. I find this interesting as well.
