Do you recognize how myopic this is? If I base my religion on Odin, it's no good? Or Zeus, or FSM, or ...

No, for the faithful, it's always their way or nothing.

Skepticism is not a position; it is an approach to claims.
Science is not a subject, but a method.

Do you recognize how myopic this is?

That's a rhetorical question, right? Big Grin

As it was in the beginning is now and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.
And I will show you something different from either
Your shadow at morning striding behind you
Or your shadow at evening rising to meet you;
I will show you fear in a handful of dust.

I suppose, in that I don't actually expect a cogent reply.

To me it just seems shallow and illogical. What difference does it make if a 'belief system' purports to lead to eternal life if in fact no such thing is possible? This only reinforces the impression so many of us non-theists have that what most theists choose to believe has much more to do with with what they hope for than with what they think there is reason to think true.

It reminds me of all the times I've heard theists -Christians mostly- say that if there was no God there would be no reason not to go out and commit rape and murder. Such a sentiment exposes what passes for morality for these people. If the only reason they don't go out and harm others for larks is the thought that there is someone badder than they are who can make them very sorry for doing it .. then their actions are never moral. They merely fear to do the evil that is in their hearts out of cowardice of what will befall them if they do.

I've come to the conclusion that morality is incomprehensible if you believe in some eternal reward or bullshit promise of a postmortem preservation of identity. It will always elude and escape you. You lack the necessary basis for comprehension.
