The crazy sh*t in the bible - where did it come from?
The bible is full of all sorts of crazy mystical visions - Ezekiel in particular. If we're going to assume that men wrote the bible then where did these crazy visions come from? Were they simply made up? Did they actually see something i.e. ancient alien theory... An interesting theory I saw on tv before was that the world's religions may have been based on drug cults. Just Indian shaymans took drugs and thought they were seeing visions from the gods maybe the people in the bible did similar rituals.

It's often a lot of metaphorical symbolis... I mean aliens.

I see what you did there.

Dodgy

How can anyone become an atheist when we are all born with no beliefs in the first place? We are atheists because we were born this way.

Are you familiar with what Thomas Jefferson said of the Book of Revelation?

Quote:It is between fifty and sixty years since I read it and I then considered it as merely the ravings of a maniac no more worthy nor capable of explanation than the incoherences of our own nightly dreams.

Smart man, that Jefferson.

Atheism is NOT a Religion. It's A Personal Relationship With Reality!

Yeah, I would go with a combination of imagination and drug induced hallucinations. I have no fears about anything amazing actually happening back then. I mean, look at how gullible people are today. Imagine what it was like back then? Anyone who paused for thought for a second before bashing someone's skull in with a rock was probably the village sceptic.

I have a website here which discusses the issues and terminology surrounding religion and atheism. It's hopefully user friendly to all.

The Christian Bible has been adapted from many cultures and religions. A few examples that come to mind:

- Moses applying a snake on a stick to cure people of poison is reminiscent of the symbol used to represent medicine. It's still used today.
- Jesus is thought to borrow from an Egyptian God who also rose from the dead.
- Samson's stories also resembles tales of Hercules.

I don't have sources on hand, however.

Oh yeah, it's a proper cut and paste job. I'm amazed this alone doesn't stop people believing this crap.
