Your question as to which definition is correct is meaningless because all of the dictionaries you mentioned share a common definition.

They share the second definition as well.

Indeed. When you ask which of these definitions is the correct one, you're implying that they can't all be correct at the same time. I don't think that that notion is warranted because it's not unusual for words to be polysemous.

True. I only posed the question because i know many people are very adamant about one particular definition, so I was wondering why that was so and why that one was "correct."
