I think the first was an easy version of Romance, for the spanish guitar.
"Alle meine Entchen" for recorder.
"Au Claire de la Lune" on keyboard.
And Dannyboy for the tin whistle.

RE: The first song you learned on an instrument.
First thing I ever learnt to play

"Mary had a little lamb" - Piano.

I think that was the first song in piano book.

first time I played something to completion and thought to myself wow that was an achievement worth the time I invested learning:

Eine Kleine Nachtmusik - Also no the piano.

Four years of piano tuition well spent I thought, until I would suffer from RSI years later.

Marylin Mansons backing band had an actual name? I learned something today, but I refuse to post that in the other thread pertaining to daily learnings.

hmm.
I can't remember learning things on the recorder and trombone, memory doesn't go back that far... Some shitty stuff, certainly.

piano- Queen - Bohemian Rhapsody
guitar - Metallica-For Whom the Bell Tolls (also still the only song I can play on drums, but no sane person would let me near drums then or now)
bass guitar-Metallica-Master of Puppets

Probably "Stairway to Heaven" I'd guess. Pretty sure I learned that very quickly.

As for songs I worked out - nutted out myself - probably "Sway" off Sticky Fingers (at least Mick Taylor's parts) would have been the first. Followed by all of "Get Yer Ya-Ya's Out".

Stairway to Heaven

On piano (the only song I ever learned)

On guitar the very first song I learned was blackbird.

On sax (yea I couldn't make up my mind) Sir Duke (8th grade band)

Drums....gosh...i wanna say it was Fly Me to the Moon....but I'm not sure.

The sun rises in the West and the bird shits on the coffeetable.

The first full song I ever learned on an instrument was Saltwater Room by Owl City on piano. This isn't me in the video, but this is the video that inspired me to learn it. When I look back on the videos, there are so many more covers and tutorials of this song now, and in better quality. But back when I learned it (which was probably around the 7th or 8th graed for me) this was one of the only covers up for the song, and I instantly fell in love with it.

Hot cross buns on a recorder.

But fuck that.

Hm... first song I could play wholly and from memory? I think that'd be Duke Ellington's Caravan.

... this is my signature!
