The greatest failure
Last week (September 14) marked the anniversary of one of the greatest failures of the modern world. The start of the occupy protests. Quite possible the largest civil movement in the history of the world, that spanned multiple countries, with people of many races and religions has to all intents and purposes faded away. Any thoughts

I'm homophobic in the same way that I'm arachnophobic. I'm not scared of gay people but I'm going to scream if I find one in my bath.

I'm. Also homophobic in the same way I'm arachnophobic. I'm scared of spiders but I'd still fuck'em.

RE: The greatest failure
Well, if people had been killed this would have been different. However, the news reports that were broadcasting in my area did not actally talk about what they were trying to do. They just talked about a large protest.

When you are courting a nice girl an hour seems like a second. When you sit on a red-hot cinder a second seems like an hour. That's relativity.

You cannot successfully determine beforehand which side of the bread to butter.

No one talked about what they were trying to do because they weren't trying to actually do anything. You could ask a thousand different people at any of the occupy protests what they were trying to accomplish and you would get a thousand different answers. When it came out that certain agencies were actually paying people to be there they lost most of their credibility. Not that they had much of that to start with. People made/make fun of the tea party but at least the tea party had a general direction in mind with their protests and they cleaned up after themselves when they left a site. The occupiers trashed everyplace they occupied.

Long term change requires long term, nitty-gritty, boring-ass, in-the-trenches, hard, give-up-something-to-get-it-done work, when the shine has worn off. Not all people get that. My generation thinks it's entitled to everything, with the swipe of daddy's debit card.

It's not entirely dead is it ? It was fairly obvious from the start, in many places there was little organization. Also, it was dependent on those people not having jobs. Some of them were offered jobs. The economy has improved a little.

Thoughts? Yeah. Saying "greatest failure" about a political subject is fail. Big Grin

Shit don't mean nothing to me. I try to talk to people, but no one can see past Friday. So what do I care? Like Bucky says, no one is willing to invest, everybody just wants to get paid. Dodgy

What'd they fail to do? Looks like they're not only alive but making quite a stink of it in Spain.

As it was in the beginning is now and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.
And I will show you something different from either
Your shadow at morning striding behind you
Or your shadow at evening rising to meet you;
I will show you fear in a handful of dust.

Well, they failed to take over Wall Street and give all the loot to Tarzan, obviously. Big Grin

RE: The greatest failure
That crap even sprung up here. It was funny though because the council asked many times if they could move because where they were camped out they were killing grass. The council even said they could this other space as to let the grass to grow. The "protestors" refused and so the council took them to court on grounds that they were ruining the space for all to enjoy and the council won. The protestors still refused to move so the police came in and forcefully removed them.

I think it was rather reasonable of the council actually, I mean they were camped in the middle of a park, a park that was used by people daily and these protestors were killing the grass and ruining the space.

The whole thing originated by poor people who were annoyed that like Bucky said shit wasn't just handed to them and basically one big jealously rant. Then it morphed into just a homeless shanty town.
Just one big waste of time and effort.

OWS was a dry run. A test to see how they could mobilize their "troops" and how many they could get.

Round two is occupying the state houses and city halls, then actually executing government officials.

OWS is a communist movement. Their only goal is to end capitalism and install socialism.

Remember the brown shirts in 1930 Germany. Same ideas. Same tactics. Same goals. ...and if successful, same results.

The old gods are dead, let's invent some new ones before something really bad happens.

Really? Don't you think that's just a tad paranoid?
