and if each box has an equal chance of containing a ball or a rock then no matter which box you pick the odds of getting a ball are 1/2

Each box has a 1/2 chance that all the boxes only contain balls.

Who's question is this? I offer you a choice of 5, not a choice of 1/2.

Are the boxes all empty? Do they all contain the same thing?

Back to Statistics 101 dude. You are in the first week of it. We've all been thru it a long time ago. No mysteries here, jsut confusion if you wish to be confused, but you ar not confusing anyone but yourself.

I have 5 boxes I ask you to pick a box your choice is out of how many boxes?

You're not asking about my choice of boxes, you're asking what are the odds of whichever I box I pick contains a heads up coin. It's 1/2, dude. Now if you were to ask what are the odds I would pick box 3 and it is heads up that'd be 1 in 10.

No, I was asking about choice of ''box''. Must have crossed wires by syntactic ambiguity.

No it's not.

So you are saying in our five boxes, you are certain how many of them have rocks in them? I think not which is already agreed. If a rock is alive and the ball is dead, you don't know if the box is live or dead.

How is that anything like what you were originally asking?

Have fun here at TTA.

I found probability far more interesting and challenging than statistics. Statistics is just applied math, probability can be a serious mindfuck. Big Grin
